Lake of Menteith fishing report
Lake of Menteith
Pre-season Report 16/3/16
6ft Water Temperature 4.5 C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.6m.
As many of you will know, The Lake of Menteith Fisheries 50th season starts on Saturday 19th
March and the forecast is reasonable with very light winds and overcast but perhaps a little on the cool side with a high of 9C. Water temperature and clarity is very close to average for the time of year. As part of our 50th celebrations we are sponsoring some of the major competitions at the Lake with beer and engraved flasks filled with whisky. This is a picture of the 1000 bottles of the specially commissioned Beer of Menteith arriving at the Lake. So the boats are ready, the beer is here and the fish are in. Pictured below are some of the 1480 fish that were stocked yesterday being loaded into the boat. The stockies are around 1 ¾ lbs as the best growing month of the 2016 winter, March, has been a cold one. As part of our celebrations and also with the help of some economic factors we have been able to hold ticket cost at 2015 prices. Alec Stark from Glasgow boated the biggest pike for a while (36 ½ lbs taken off Arnmach). The picture confirms it is a different
beast to the 35lb critter that was boated in November. The only thing missing now are fishers and we
look forward to seeing you all again soon and are sorry that you cannot all be with
us on opening day. More information on the website and in next week’s report.
