5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) A mixed week of weather produced some mixed results at Swanswater. T-shirt weather returned for the first time in 2016 and anglers came out intent on making the most of the glorious weather. These brighter and warmer days tended to push the fish deeper and make fishing tougher. Cloud cover was the key and the more overcast days saw fish much more active and being taken in the top 3 feet again. Lures and Buzzers were the most effective, with old favourites like Yellow Dancer, Cat’s Whisker and Damsel proving the best. Small Nymphs such as PTN and Diawl Bach were effective at times and even a selection of dries saw some sport on the Millpond and Meadow Pond.
The Brown trout season started with a bang this year, with Greenock angler Henry Fulton winning a 4 hour permit for landing the first of the season, a superb 5lb 2oz specimen.
