ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 08 February 2016. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 07 February 2016.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery closed for the 2015 season on Saturday 31st October and will re-open for the 2016 season (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1st March.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Another reasonable week of weather at Kingennie made conditions a little more pleasant for fishing in. Some strong winds have been troublesome but no rain has seen the water really clearing and that has helped. On the Boathouse pool it’s been a real mix of patterns catching fish, some have done very well with black and greens as well as Damsels. Others have done very well on the bung with Squirmies and Nymphs but Buzzers just haven’t worked for some reason. On Saturday we had the Ferry Fly Dressers in and they had a great day with everyone catching their limit for a total of 15 fish for 48lb 4oz with Kenny Gibblin landing the biggest fish of the day with a 12lb 5oz rainbow caught on a Black and Green Lure. Mr Barlow did well landing 10 fish in a couple of hours on Black Nymphs whilst Mr Ramsey had 11 fish returned on a Squirmy at 3 feet including a double. The Burnside is continuing to fish well to a number of methods but an intermediate line with Cormorants and a Yellow Dancer has proved best. Mr Cheetham had 5 for 9lb and another 11 put back on that method including one of around 8lb. Mr Simpson had 9 on White and Green lures including one around 12lb and Mr Roy had a good afternoon landing 8 fish on Cormorants. The Bankside has been quite quiet this week but there have been a few fish it with Mr Soave keeping 2 for 5lb 8oz and Mr Simpson also having a double around 12lb. The Woodside has been busier this week and the fish are responding well to float fished baits at around 4 feet down. Mr Southcott had 8 fish for 13lb and Mr Taylor had 4 for 7lb.
Spaces are starting to fill up for the Scottish Stillwater team qualifier on march 27th but there is still room so if you are looking to fish it please call 01382 350777/350213 for more details.

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Last week Wednesday was the best day with several anglers having a good day's fishing.   The fish are still taking in the first 2 - 3 feet with a very slow retrieve. The fish can usually be seen moving so a floating line is doing well with the fish taking various coloured lures along with Buzzers, the Cat Viva and the popular Ally McCoist.
Andy Murray from Glasgow had 3 fish for 10lbs on a Montana, Liam Murray, Glasgow, 3 for 10lbs on an Ally, Dave Wilkie, Stirling, 3 for 10lbs on a Black & Green Fritz, Bob Ross, Kilsyth, 2 for 5lbs 8oz on an Ally and Gerry McDonald from Glasgow took 3 for 7lbs 4oz on an Ally. John Speedie from Cumbernauld took a brace weighing 6lbs 4oz on a Black Fritz, Robert Kettles, Perth, 2 for 6lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Allan Mitchell, Stirling, 3 for 7lbs on a Black Lure, Bill Dawson, Dollar, 1 for 2lbs 8oz on a Mini Cat and G Bryant from Denny used an Orange Nomad t bag one weighing 3lbs.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) The Alloa Winter League had a good outing catching 25 fish for 87lbs with the winner being Paul Christie with 3 for 24lbs 8oz including two fish weighing 10lbs 14oz apiece. The Scottish Team Fundraiser saw 257 trout caught and released with top rod being Colin McDonald with 11. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh used an Apps and Buzzers to bag 11 whilst Eddies Peden, Linton, had 5 on Buzzers.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The storms at the start of the week kept the anglers away and gave the fish a good rest.   When the weather improved on Wednesday, conditions were very good and there were a lot of fish taken.   In the morning they were taking in the channel but they moved round to the dam and the boats later in the day.   The rest of the week was variable with some excellent fishing at times but some harder days as well.   The fish were at varying depths – anything from 2 feet to 6 feet – but often around 3 feet down.   The channel continued to be the most productive area.    Buzzers, Ally McCoist, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Diawl Bach, Snatcher and Cormorant were the favourite patterns with a medium retrieve required to attract the fish.   A good number of 4lb to 6lb Rainbows are being landed at present along with some cracking Blues around 3lb.
The best bags this week included: Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 5lb 14oz Rainbow, Robert Park, Lennoxtown, 2 for 8lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 17lb 4oz including Rainbows at 5lb 2oz and 4lb 8oz and a Blue and Alan Armstrong, Dollar, 4 for 14lb 2oz including 4lb Rainbow and a Blue. Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 14lb, William Williams, Alloa, 4 for 12lb from the Meadow Pond including 5lb Rainbow and 2 Blues, Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, 3 for 10lb 4oz plus 2 caught and released, John O’Hara, Shotts, 3 for 9lb 12oz including 4lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue and Stan Moore, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 10oz including 4lb 4oz Rainbow. John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 3 for 9lb 4oz, Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, 3 for 8lb 12oz including a Blue plus 2 caught and released, Nan Morrison, Stirling, 3 for 8lb 12oz, Julian Rey, Helensburgh, 2 for 6lb 4oz and Sandy Donald, Dunblane, 2 for 6lb including a Blue. Kevin Gray, Camelon, caught and released 10.
