Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 18 January 2016. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 17 January 2016.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery closed for the 2015 season on Saturday 31st October and will re-open for the 2016 season (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1st March.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) This change in weather turning much colder has really helped the fishing, the lack of rain has seen the Boathouse turn gin clear and the Burnside getting better by the day with around 2 feet of visibility now and the other ponds really improving as well. This has made a welcome change from the dirty water of the last couple of weeks. In the Boathouse the bung has yet again been the best method with a mix of patterns working but small Black Buzzers down to a size 16 have caught fish consistently when lures have been a bit hit and miss. Mr Barlow had 16 fish on Black &Green Buzzers including a fish estimated at around 8lbs. Father and son Hector and Gary Connell did well landing 15 fish between them on Blobs and Buzzers with a fish over 10lb to each of them. Mr Johnston had 2 for 9lb and put back another 4. On the Burnside there has been several big fish out over the last week with Mr Peters taking a fish of 11lb 4oz on a Hot Head Damsel, “Jim” also took a fish of 11lb 4oz off the same peg the next day on a Cormorant and Mr Sheppard returned 10 fish including fish estimated at 8lb and 10lb on Buzzers and Blobs. Mr White had 3 fish on a white lure including one estimated over 10lb. The Bankside has had some issues with ice this last week and as a result has had very few anglers on it. Mr Soave fished in the ice free area and landed kept 2 fish for 5lb on a Black and Green lure. The Woodside has seen the fish very well spread over and catches have been very unpredictable but in the dirty water Powerbait has been best fished quite deep down has been best. Mr Murray had 2 fish for 3lb, Mr Wilson had 2 fish for 3lb and Mr Dawkins had 1 for 2lb.
There are still spaces left for the Scottish Stillwater International team qualifiers on the 27th of March. People looking for more information or to book a peg please call 01382 35077 / 350213

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a quiet week once again with the inclement weather keeping the angler numbers down but Neil Robertson from Edinburgh did well with 9 on Blobs and Buzzers, Ken Morrison, Edinburgh, 4 on a Bloodworm Chris McKenna, Dalkeith, 7 on Cormorants and John Daly from Edinburgh used various lures to take 7. Jimmy Watters from Dalkeith had 3 on a Cat’s Whisker and Mick Mulgrew, Danderhall, managed 6 on Buzzers.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Winter arrived at Swanswater this week with snow falling from Wednesday evening onwards and temperatures barely above 0oC even during the day in the latter part of the week. The aerators and an overnight breeze kept all the ponds virtually ice free and some good fishing was enjoyed despite the cold. The fish were slightly deeper than they have been for the last few weeks, and were to be found behind the islands and in the channel in front of the island. The boats were also hitting fish with the two biggest fish of the week, a rainbow and a tiger at 5lb 12oz, both taken from boats. Favourite patterns included the usual suspects – Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Hot-head Damsel, Diawl Bach, Cormorant and Buzzers – with a slower retrieve being needed as the fish were not following and chasing as much as previously. The Fishery is still open every day from 8.00am to 4.00pm.
John O’Hara, Shotts, in two visits, 4 for 14lb 12oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow, Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, 3 for 11lb 12oz including 5lb 12oz Tiger, Robert Park, Lennoxtown, 3 for 11lb 12oz including 5lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue, Iain Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 for 14lb including 2 Blues plus 2 caught and released and Alec Knox, Glasgow, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 2 Blues. Gareth Mair, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb including 4lb Rainbow, John Relf, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb 4oz including a Blue plus 1 caught and released, John Sneddon, Falkirk, 2 for 7lb 4oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue, Alex Britton, Bellshill, 2 for 6lb 12oz including 4lb 4oz Rainbow and Andrew Connelly, Stirling, caught and released 8 from the small ponds.
