ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 30 November 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 29 November 2015.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery closed for the 2015 season on Saturday 31st October and will re-open for the 2016 season (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1st March.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Another week of wind, snow and rain has made for challenging conditions but those who braved the weather have done well with some outstanding returns from all the ponds. Different ponds are fishing better depending on the day and the amount of rain we have been getting which has caused some dirty water in the ponds. The Boathouse has fished best to lures with Damsels and Black and Green standing out as the top flies. Mr Noble had a great day returning 19 on lures with the largest around 5lb, Mr White had 2 fish for 7lb including a 5lb rainbow as well as another 11 returned, Mr Bairner continued his run of big fish with a 13lb 8oz rainbow on his second cast of the day in a bag of 4 for 21lb. The Burnside has been the dirtiest pond this week but the fish are still high in the water taking a mix of lures fished on a floating line. The bung is still working very well set at around 3 feet with a Squirmy being the most popular fly. Mr Simpson released 20 fish on the bung, Mr Valentine had 18 on lures with the largest around 10lb,  Mr Neri did very well landing 8 rainbows in 2 hours in the middle of a snow storm while fishing the bung.  The Bankside has been quiet but the water has been the clearest in that pond. Mr Japp did well landing 11 on Diawl Bachs, Mr Stevens had 2 for 6lb and put back 11 including a double on orange lures. The Woodside has not had many anglers on it but those who have ventured out have done well with a lot of fish being caught on float fished Powerbait. Mr Bourne had 4 fish for 7lb.

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was a very quiet week due to the very inclement but despite this some decent catches were recorded. R Mckendrick had 2 for 6lbs 8oz on a Bug, T Adams, 2 for 6lbs 4oz on a Bug, John Thomson from Fallin took 3 for 10lbs on a Green Peter, Bill Dawson, Dollar, 3 for 10lbs on a Cat and Greg Lockhart from Dunblane had 3 for 10lbs on an Ace of Spades. Dave Wilkie from Stirling caught 3 for 12lbs 8oz on an Olive Hot Head, Kong from Crieff, 2 for 10lbs on a White Dancer, Neil Bruce, Falkirk, 2 for 6lbs – best 3lbs 8oz on a Black Lure, R Nettles, Perth, 3 for 9lbs on a Buzzer and Craig Duncan from Alva took 1 for 4lbs. A Templeman from Blairgowrie had 3 for 16lbs 12oz on a Black Fritz, P Price, Falkirk, 4 for 13lbs 8oz – best 4lbs 8oz on an Ally, Harry Carson, 2 for 5lbs 8oz on an Ally, J Colley 4 for 17lbs on a Yellow Dancer, A McAlpine 2 for 5lbs on a Green Damsel and W Barr took 4 for 14lbs 8oz on a Black Cat.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) There was a number of big fish landed last week with Neil Raeburn from Edinburgh topping the list with one at 15lbs included in a bag of 9 fish taken on a Black Taddy. Ross Peters from Edinburgh also had 9 fish with his heaviest tipping the scales at 14lbs 8oz and this was caught on a White Rabbit, John Daly from Edinburgh used an Orange Fritz to bag one of 12lbs and Derek Demarco from Haddington took one at 11lbs on a White Fritz. Other good catches included Ken Morrison from Edinburgh with 8 on a Black & Silver Lure, Eddie Peden, Pentcaitland, 16 on a Black & Silver Buzzer and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 10 on a variety of small lures.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The week started and finished with cold weather, including snow showers on Sunday, but there was some milder weather midweek.   The fish were mostly to be found 2 to 4 feet down and well spread out round the pond, although the island and the far bay were probably the most popular areas partly due to the wind direction.   The weather at the weekend deterred all but the most determined anglers, but those who did brave the wind, rain, sleet and snow, were mostly well rewarded with good catches.   A good number of 4lb to 5lb Rainbows are featuring in the catch returns along with the usual size of top-quality stocked fish.   The small ponds continue to fish well and provided a more sheltered location in the worst of the weather.   Most fish were taken on small lures this week, with nymphs also taking.   Favourite patterns included the usual Dancer, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Ally McCoist, Cormorant, Diawl Bach, Bloodworm and Buzzer.
Names are now being taken for the annual Charity Competition to be held on Sunday 27th December.   Please contact the Fishery for details.
