Fishing report by Jim Boyd

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 02 November 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 01 November 2015.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery will close for the 2015 season on Saturday 31st October – we will re-open for the 2016 season (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1st March.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing has stayed very steady this past week here at Kingennie with the weather staying very stable resulting is some impressive returns. The water is still very clear in all the ponds which is always beneficial, when the wind picks up there have been a lot of falling leaves on the water which the fish are really getting up to and eating the terrestrials that are on them, this is really leading to some great dry fly action. There are still many big fish featuring in the catch reports from all the ponds also.
The Burnside has been really busy all week with a lot of the dry fly action coming on this pond, very small black spiders have been best but as long as the p presentation is good there has been fish to be caught. Buzzer tactics have works as have lures on a sunken line with Damsels, Blobs and Bloodworms doing well. The best method has been the bung with a mixture of Buzzers, Blobs, and Bloodworms and of course the Squirmy fished between 2 and 10 feet deep depending on the day. Mr Valentine returned 21 on a Sunburst Blob fished on a sinker, Mr Watson returned 14 on Squirmies with the biggest around 8lb. Mr Jackson had the biggest fish of the week with rainbow estimated around 12lb caught on a Buzzer. The Boathouse has seen the fish high up in the water as well and very similar tactics to the Burnside have worked on this pond. Mr Bairner did very well on Saturday landing 4 fish for 24lb and returning 6. Mr Chalmers returned 14 while fishing small dries and spiders. Mr Connell had 2 for 5lb and returned 12 on a Squirmy fished under the bung. The Bankside has seen more anglers fishing and it has produced some great catches as well. The fish are moving around all the time and don’t seem to be doing the same thing two days in a row. Mr Westland had 12 on Damsels on a floater with the biggest around 12lb. Mr Sherriff returned 11 on Bloodworms. Mr Gordon had 5 with the largest around 10lb. The Woodside has still been very busy and is fishing very well. Over the weekend there were 41 anglers land 95 fish for a weight of 151lb with the largest a 5lb 3oz rainbow caught by Mr Middleton on Powerbait.

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The fish are still being caught on dries and lures with the anglers enjoying this spell of weather, with the exception of Wednesday.  The clear water and plenty of feeding is still making the fishing challenging at times.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) As the unseasonably mild weather continues, the fish remain in the top 2 to 3 feet of the water.Floating lines and nymphs or small lures fished with a fast retrieve have been working well, with some fish still taking small dry flies, particularly on the small ponds. The heavy rain midweek briefly coloured the water, but conditions were back to excellent by the weekend.Fish are being taken all round the main pond and the two small ponds continue to fish really well.Tigers are still being seen in the burn area but are proving to be somewhat elusive.  This week’s favourite patterns included Damsel, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Nomad, Diawl Bach, Cormorant, Spider, Kate McLaren and, especially on the small ponds, Buzzers.
