5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The fish were still in the top few feet of the water for most of what was generally a very good week – both weather-wise and fishing-wise.   Even midweek when there was some rain and heavy showers, fish were showing all over the ponds and being taken in the top foot or so of the water.   The fish are very active and looking to chase a variety of flies, giving anglers a lot of great sport by following, swirling and often taking on or just under the surface.   Favourite patterns included nymphs such as Diawl Bach, Damsel and Buzzer, wet flies including Kate McLaren, Black Spider and Bibio, and dries including Sedge, Caddis, Hopper and Daddy Long Legs.   A few lures were also working for those who were fishing a bit deeper.   At certain times, the fish seemed to be favouring the middle of Swanswater and the boats had an advantage over the bank, although those on the bank also did well.  The second biggest Tiger ever landed at Swanswater was caught this week, by the Tiger expert, John Mathieson, Doune, a cracking 7lb 9oz specimen, one of two in John’s bag of 3 for 14lb 8oz. Gary Stewart, Glasgow, 3 for 16lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow, Stan Moore, Falkirk, in two visits, 6lb 8oz Rainbow plus a further 18 caught and released, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 16lb 2oz plus 4 caught and released and Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 15lb 2oz. Robert Park, Glasgow, in two visits, 8 for 26lb including 4lb 4oz Rainbow,  plus 2 caught and released, David Halcrow, Stenhousemuir, 4 for 14lb 8oz including 4lb 12oz Rainbow, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a Blue and a Brown and Stuart Malcolm, Glasgow, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a Blue. George Dobbie, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb 12oz, Alec Knox, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb 8oz, Jim Craig, Balloch, 3 for 9lb including 4lb Rainbow and a Blue and Brian McIntosh, Jnr, Banknock, 3 for 9lb. James Henderson, Stirling, in two visits, 5 for 14lb 4oz, Allan Laing, Carluke, 2 for 6lb 12oz, Robert Erskine, Kincardine, 2 for 6lb 12oz, Alexander Allison, Kilmarnock, 2 for 5lb 4oz plus 4 Browns returned and Peter Paterson, Menstrie, 4lb 4oz Rainbow.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) There are lots of fish moving on the surface but they have been a wee bit more selective than usual but those fishing small dries are still doing best and getting good sport with some hefty specimens featuring in the baskets. The bait pond fishing well with some nice 4lb plus trout been caught this week. Theo McKenna from Milton of Campsie had a nice specimen of 4lbs, Mick Leaf, Glasgow, 5 on C+% including a blue at 6lbs, John Shaw, Kilsyth, 4 on C+R – best 5lbs 8oz and Pat Harte from Bishopbriggs took 4 for 10lbs 7oz.
