Lake Fishing Report 18/8/15
Clarity 2m 6ft water temperature 15.5C

Despite some glorious weather fishing has not been too hard over the last few days at the Lake with some good catches taken by Messrs J&J Gardner, Ramage and Galloway, Wallace and Mannion, Scotsman AC( 3 boats) 19 fish - on Monday, slightly tougher on the Sunday (Grizzlecats 8 boats 33 fish) and perhaps slightly better conditions on Saturday (eg Thack AC 6 boats 38 fish). Best areas reported were the Shear Point to Lochend and Sams Point and Dog Isle areas. Tactics varied from lures on floater/sink tip/intermediate to traditional and small offerings on or near the surface. Stocking this week will be on Tuesday 18th (~900+ fish planned).

After 15 nights all the placings in the boat were finally decided, although 1st and 2nd place were secured by the 14 heat . The last heat  and 15th Heat was won by Ken Oliver with fish from the silage Pit, Squirrel Island and Shear Point, Andy Kemp was in 2nd place and 3rd placed Jim donnelly got the £25 tackle voucher from Roger - as the afore mentioned were previous recipients. The 21 anglers netted 62 trout. The battle for 3rd place was intense as both contenders ended up in the same boat but the score of 5 fish each meant that Andy Kemp narrowly missed out again.
Champion Brian received £500 in cash and a tackle voucher from Baynes of £100 and the Boat League Quaich. Brian also gets to choose the charity for the residual amount of £262, and a bottle of Champaign for his Partner. 2nd placed Jim Twaddle was away on his Salmon fishing break - but one hundred pounds in cash, a £75 Baynes Tackle Voucher and the Alan Ronald Memorial Trophy awaits his return. 3rd placed Ken Oliver receives £50 in cash and a Baynes tackle voucher for £50. 4th and 5th placed received a bottle of Glen Garioch Single Malt, as did Peter Cameron for being the best placed newcomer to the comp.
Brian's Secret's: Brian stuck with dries as the hot weather (which puts the fish down) never came. He was also using a 5wt rod with only a floater available, since June. This was partly a result of a sore elbow (need to show you some stretch exercises for this btw Brian). His top tips were: to move about a lot, a few casts here and a few casts there, use nothing but fluoro, and if it goes calm stick a buzzer between the two dries to hide the nylon. Brian had his 4 fish on Wednesday in the cages and International Bay.
The competitors all voiced their approval for the new partnering system where boat partners are randomly allocated and also showed their thanks to Roger of Baynes Tackle for his £600 worth of sponsorship, the Angler's contributed £600 to the kitty by way of subs, the Lake gave £312 cash plus catering on the final night, Glen Garioch 3 bottles of single malt - courtesy of Morrison Bowmore and the cakes - a gift from Brian's wife. http://www.menteith-fisheries.co.uk/men…/boatleague2010.html
