The best working flies included the Daddy Longlegs, Bibio Hopper, Bibio, Sedge Muddler, Cormorant, Cats Whisker, Yellow Dancer and Sedgehogs whilst the top fishing areas have been the Dogleg, North Shore and the Dam Wall.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The recent rain has been welcome in as much as it has flushed the system through and lowered the water temperature, making it a more comfortable environment for the trout. Water clarity has improved again making good presentation all the more important. The Boathouse has fished reasonably well with several of the best catches being taken on smaller flies. Mr. Muir took three fish on dry flies for a total of 10lbs. The Burnside Pool has enjoyed a red letter week with four large fish being taken and all of them released. Richard Marshall topped the returns with a fish estimated at 15lbs, taken on a Corixa imitation. Another excellent rainbow estimated at 12lbs fell to Ian Barlow; Kenny Spottiswood landed one estimated at 10lbs and Gordon Matthews enticed a superbly conditioned rainbow of 7lbs. In addition to these Craig Dixon had 15 fish on a catch-and-release option. There has been plenty of surface activity on the Bankside Pool but the fish have been hard to catch. Smaller nymphs and buzzers have produced the better results. Woodside, the any legal method pool fished especially well on Saturday when 37 fish were taken for a total of 74lbs. Best fish for the week from this pool weighed 4lbs 3ozs and was taken by Charlie Buchan.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian)  Last week saw some of the bigger fish coming out with Tommy Dickson from Dunbar topping the list with a terrific rainbow of 14lbs 2oz that was taken on a Black and Green Rabbit and included in a bag of 6. Jack Hay from Haddington wasn’t far behind with one at 13lbs on a Cat, Bruce Hunter, Edinburgh used an Olive lure to take one at 10lbs 8oz and Derek DeMarco from Haddington caught an 8lb specimen on a mini lure. 4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a very good week for fishing with the fish being caught on the surface or just under falling for a wide variety of dries and small lures.   There is still an abundance of natural feeding in the water with loads of fry for the fish to feed on just now. On Saturday the Riverside Club from Fife took 19 fish for 41lbs 8oz with Jim Scullion having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 10 lbs. Dave Brydon from Blaydon took 3 fish for 11lbs 8oz – best 5 lbs on a Yellow Fritz, Hamish Church, Dumbarton, 2 for 7lbs 4oz on Dries, Jim Speirs, Falkirk, 2 for 8lbs 8oz on a Daddy, Jack Gibb, Clackmannan, 1 for 4lbs 12oz on a Daddy and Hamish Carmichael  from Tullibody used a Kate McLaren to take a brace weighing 6lbs. 5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The fishing improved as the week progressed, although things on the main pond were a bit harder again on Sunday. The two small ponds fished well all week with the Meadow Pond particularly productive over the weekend. The Browns and Tigers are much happier now that the water temperature has dropped and figure frequently in the catch returns. These striking fish are looking for something to chase and will often follow the fly right in to the edge before taking.    Many anglers have been missing them by lifting off too early.   Most of the fish have been in the top 3 feet of the water on Swanswater and often just under the surface on the small ponds.   Favourite patterns this week included Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Bibio, Buzzer, Kate McLaren, Black Pennell and, on the small ponds, Hopper and Daddy. The Swanswater Cygnets Junior Angling Club held their annual barbecue on Saturday evening and while the fishing was not terribly productive, everyone enjoyed the social occasion and the food! Fishery opening hours are currently 8.00am to 9.00pm every day.
