The best working flies proved to be the Kate McLaren, Sedge Muddler, Dabblers, Sedgehogs and Cormorants whilst all areas fished well.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Summer appears to have arrived early at Kingennie and there have been some substantial fly hatches, resulting in furious surface activity especially in the evenings. Although there have been large numbers of fish moving in the upper layers they have not been easy to catch and have provided some interesting but frustrating fishing. However, the Osprey has returned and showed us how to do it with its wonderful fishing abilities. In clear water conditions the Boathouse Pool has allowed individual fish to be stalked and targeted with a variety of flies; several fish have fallen to nymphs and small lures. Craig Walker enticed 7 and Mr. Petrie took 6 rainbows on a Hare’s Ear. Buzzers have proved very successful on the Burnside Pool and dry flies have encouraged a lot of interest. Several catch and release anglers have enjoyed excellent sport with fish in the 1.50 to 2lbs range. Bankside is beginning to establish itself again with the better fishing being in a westerly wind. Robert Gibson took 14 and Bruce Dixon had 13 on a mixture of Buzzers and dries. The occasional decent perch has also been caught and returned. These are magnificent fish with black and green stripes and bright orange/red fins. The any method pool, Woodside has been a bit temperamental but the best catches have still been on Powerbait (green or orange) or spinners. The average weight is around 1lb 8oz but several over 2lbs have been taken.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was another good week for ‘biggies’ coming off with Bruce Hunter bagging the biggest at 13lbs 3oz on a Bloodworm. Daryl Young from Portobello had one at 12lbs on a Bloodworm, Jack Hay, Haddington, one at 11lbs 4oz on a Dancer and Liam Walker from Edinburgh included one at 10lbs in his catch of 10 taken on the Hopper. Gordon Scott from Lilliesleaf had 11 on Crunchers, Jim Mackie, Perth, 6 on Hoppers, John Thomson, East Linton, 6 on Buzzers and Derek Powell from Haddington took 19 on Crunchers. Paul Rae from Hawick had two visits over the week taking 19 and 13 respectively on Crunchers.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Saturday was a great day for the Strathcarron Hospice Charity Day and the rain stayed off until after the prize giving and raffle.   Thanks to the generosity of the Fly Anglers and the Coarse Angling Club, Margaret Wilson selling over £500 worth of Tablet, the Falcon FFC, Adam Fox and Harry Irvine and everyone who helped the fishery raise an astonishing £3,588 – a tremendous amount for a small fishery.  Special thanks to everyone involved. There was 91 fish caught weighing 233lbs 12oz and the winner was Jack Gibb with 4 fish for 14 lbs who won the Paul McKenzie Memorial Trophy and the Letty and Rab Mitchell Shield for the heaviest fish 5lbs 8oz. Ian Sloan came second with 4 fish for 13 lbs, Bob Ross was third with 4 fish for 12lbs 4oz, 4th place went to Brian Fyffe with 4 fish for 12lbs and Peter McGrath came 5th with 4 for 11lbs 12oz.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) As the week went on the weather became more settled and conditions improved, leading to some excellent fishing at the weekend.    Tigers and Browns continue to feature in the catch returns, with many of them being taken in the area around the mouth of the burn.   All fish were looking for something to chase so a fast retrieve was working well.   For much of the week the fish were just below the surface, but the sunnier weather towards the weekend sent them a bit deeper especially in the dam area.  A common complaint this week was that the number of fish being hit by anglers did not always translate into the number of fish on the bank, but led to some very enjoyable sport and a certain amount of frustration over the number of fish lost or broken.  Favourite patterns this week included the usual small lures and nymphs plus a variety of wet flies including Alexandra, Bibio, Kate McLaren and Spider.   Dry flies were catching on the small ponds especially on the warmer evenings.
Marco McCool, Doune, and his brother, Gary, Bridge of Allan, shared 7 for 19lb from the boat, including 2 Blues and a Brown, Stephen Mason and son, Jordan, Cumbernauld, shared 6 for 19lb including a Tiger and a Brown, with Jordan taking 4 of them including the Tiger and the Brown, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 15lb 4oz including 2 Blues and Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 15lb including a Blue. John Gilchrist, Stirling, 5 for 15lb, John Dargie and G Cochrane, Kirkmichael shared 5 for 15lb including a Blue, a Brown and a Tiger, Davy Neilson, Carronshore, 4 for 13lb 10oz including a Blue, plus 3 caught and released, Brian Stewart, Falkirk, 4 for 12lb 4oz including 3 Blues, plus 6 caught and returned and John Lennox, Hamilton, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 2 Tigers. Alan Laing, Carluke, 4 for 11lb 4oz including a Blue and 2 Browns, Les Cooper, Dunblane, 3 for 11lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue, Lee Murawski, Moodiesburn, 3 for 10lb 8oz and John Duncan, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb 12oz. Murray Ferguson, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 8oz including a Brown, Tommy Boyd, Bellshill, 3 for 9lb 8oz including a Blue, John Alcock, Balloch, 3 for 9lb 4oz, Sandy Donald, Dunblane, 3 for 9lb and Billy Weir, Bannockburn, 3 for 9lb. John Moyes, Grangemouth, 2 for 7lb including 4lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue, David Brodie, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 12oz and Alan Kirkham, Glasgow, caught and released 13 from the boat on Saturday afternoon and evening.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Last week saw some cracking big fish coming off with fly fisher Peter McCann from Denny taking a cracking rainbow of 4lbs 2oz and returning a tremendous brown that tipped the scales at 10lbs. Also doing well on the fly fishing front was Eddie Scott from Kirkintilloch with a brace weighing 6lbs, Mr Veza from Glasgow took 2 for 6lbs 9oz, David Horn, Stirling, 2 for 5lbs 2oz and Mr Tanner from Kirkintilloch caught 4 for 12lbs 3oz best 4lbs 1oz.
