Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 02 December 2013. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 01 December 2103.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2014

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The wintery conditions have continued this week at Forbes of Kingennie but the fishing has remained fairly constant. The cold clear days have seen the fishing slightly harder with cloudy windy days seeing a lot more action. The Boathouse has been fishing very with really clear water and the fish quite active. As usual lures have been the dominating method but Black and Green Fritzs have been the chosen pattern for most. Mr McHardy took 4 fish for 19lb 6oz on a Rob Roy. Mr Bairner who was fishing on the next peg along also took 4 fish for 18lb 13oz. Mr Quinn had 2 fish for 10lb as well as returning a brown estimated at over 5lb on a White Rabbit. The Bankside has been very much hit and miss with some anglers having superb results and others finding it hard going, Mr Bairner went on to return 12 fish on small Damsels and Black and Green Lures after taking his limit on the Boathouse. Mr Stuart also did very well keeping 2 for 5lb and returning 13 on a Hot Head Damsel. The fish do seem to be shoaling up slightly and location is making a huge difference in results. The fish in the Burnside have been really well spread and the fishing has been very consistent. In the colder weather it really is a case of finding the depth they are sat then after that fly selection hasn't been so important. Mr Cheetham had a great session keeping 4 fish for 9lb 7oz and returned a further 11, fishing a slow intermediate with Diawl Bachs and small Cat’s Whiskers.

Mr Gordon managed 7 fish fishing Green Buzzers about 6 feet down under the bung.
The Woodside has seen most of the fish sat at the back of the wind around the pipes.

As normal Powerbait has been by far the best method, the float has been slightly more popular than the lead but the spinner has still taken a few fish. Mr Mills took 4 fish for 6lb 9oz and Mr Souter managed 4 fish for 6lb 8oz.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) The best fish off last week was a 12lb 8oz rainbow taken on an App Bloodworm by Joe Beattie from Edinburgh, D Hynd took one at 9lbs 8oz on a Black and Silver Buzzer and R Field from Edinburgh used a Sunburst Blob to bag one at 6lbs 8oz. R Ainslie from Dalkeith took 7 on a Red Buzzer and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh caught 5 on a Damsel Nymph.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) As it can get extremely cold here please phone if you think it might be frozen as the temperature has varied recently from 1 degree above to 10 degrees within hours - Tel No:  01764 682287. A wide variety of colours have been catching fish about 4 - 5 feet down although the fish are moving on the top they are taking further down as the water is certainly a lot colder after being frozen. On Sunday the Falcon FFC had a good morning taking 31 fish for 85lbs 4oz with John Scullion taking the heaviest basket with 4 fish 13lbs on a Black & Gold Fritz. On Wednesday morning Veronica Lusher from Perth had one fish for 7lbs 12oz on a Diawl Bach, Robert Chapman, Linlithgow, had 4 fish for 13lbs on Buzzers, Douglas McKendrick,   Alva, 3 for 9lbs on a Black Lure and John Graham from Crieff  used a Green Fritz to take a brace weighing 6lbs. S Godfrey from Scone took 3 for 8lbs 4oz on a Yellow Dancer, Stuart Clark, Kilsyth, 3 for 9lbs on an Ally McCoist and John Gavin from Perth took 2 for 7lbs on a Damsel.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) There was some excellent fishing this week as the milder weather replaced the frost and the fish became more active again.Although a number of fish were seen moving on the surface of all the ponds, they were being caught around 2 to 4 feet down. The usual small lures, including Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Ace of Spades and Tadpole, and nymphs such as Damsel, and Buzzer, were the most successful patterns, with the favourite colours being black and yellow. The front of the island and the roadside were particularly productive at certain times of the week but generally the fish were well spread out and getting caught all around the main water. The small ponds were also fishing well with the fish slightly higher in the water there.
