Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 07 October
2013.

The following report is for the week ending Sunday, 06 October 2103.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

 2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It really feels as if autumn has set
in at Forbes of Kingennie and this cooler weather really has improved the fishing.
The water flow has increased slightly with the rain but the clarity has remained very
good. The level of the Bankside is continuing to rise faster than anticipated but we
have not confirmed a reopening date quite yet. The Boathouse has continued to fish
well despite the clear water. The Deid Ferret angling club had a successful day on
Saturday taking 15 fish for 68lb 14oz this included a 4lb 9oz brownie, with the largest
being a 10lb 8oz rainbow caught by Graeme Molak. Most of their fish were caught
on Dancer patterns with orange being the most popular. The fishing on the Burnside
has been very good with a huge amount of fish to be seen on the surface. They have
been very visible around the leaves that have fallen on the surface taking tiny dries,
however they a quite hard to catch as you need to use very small flies to fool them.
Lures fished on an intermediate line continue to take most of the fish with Damsels,
Dancers and Blobs catching the majority. Season ticket holder Mr Hamilton had a
productive evening taking 8 fish on a Yellow Dancer including a lovely blue around
3lb. With the water level now back to normal on the Woodside Pool the fishing has
been fantastic with fish spread out all over the pond responding well to all methods.
First time angler to Kingennie, Mr Simpson, had a very productive morning taking 5
fish for 10lb and his fishing partner taking 4 fish for 6lb 8oz.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Paul Kennedy from Haddington hit the headlines last
week by taking an enormous rainbow of 19lbs on an Olive Nymph, Paul Wilson,
Gorebridge, had one at 12lbs 10oz on a Green Buzzers and the last double figure
fish of the week was a 10lb fish caught by J Arbuckle from Airdrie on a Black
Pennell. Neil Keillor from Dunbar used a Pheasant Tail Nymph to take 9 on C+R, J
Fulton, Edinburgh, had 11 on Buzzers and E Rowley, Gorebridge, had 11 also on
Buzzers. The Bonnyrigg Ex-Servicemen’s AC had a good outing catching 22 fish
weighing 58lbs 8oz.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been another good week for fishing and long may
it continue with an abundance of flies hatching in the lovely sunshine. On Sunday
the Mayfield AC from Dalkeith had a good day taking 37 fish for 97lbs 4oz with
William Brash having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 15lbs - best 9lbs 8oz. Also
doing well last week was Jim Prentice from Tullibody with 4 fish for 17lbs – best
8lbs on a Black Fritz, Jamie Clunie, Muthill, 1 for 7lbs 12oz on a Yellow Dancer, Bill
Taylor, Howwood, 2 for 6lbs 8oz on a Rabbit and William Stanfield from
Bridge of Allan caught a brace weighing 11lbs on a Black Buzzer. Veronica Lusher
from Perth used Sedge to take 2 for 5lbs 8oz, Tam Mellon, Tullibody, 3 for 10lbs on
a Damsel, Johnny Weir, Airdrie, 3 for 9lbs 8oz on a Daddy and William Tounsley
from Perth had 3 fish for 10lbs on a Damsel. Jimmy Young from Alloa had 3 for 9lbs
on a Damsel and Joe Hunter from Tullibody took 5 fish for 13lbs on a Damsel.
Please note that next Sunday, 13th October the fully booked with a club outing.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) A mix of mild days, cool nights and heavy rain
maintained the water temperature at 12 degrees centigrade this week, as a result
the fishing has been generally good all week. The mornings in particular seemed to
be the time when the fish were most active, with catches slowing down a bit in the
afternoon. Even those who braved the heavy rain and dirty water on Thursday and
Friday were rewarded with good sport. The water has now cleared and the fish have
mostly been taken in the top 2 to 3 feet of water, especially as the fly first drops. Fish
have been caught round the majority of the main part of the pond, with the dam wall
being most prolific, except Sunday when the fish were in the opposite bay. Mini lures
have been the favourite this week, including Dancer, Damsel, Ace of Spades and
Ally McCoist. Smaller flies like Cormorants and Diawl Bach worked well too, with
Buzzers doing well towards the end of the week.

Stuart Malcolm, Glasgow, 8lb 10oz Blue, Campbell Doull, Dunipace, 5 for 12lb 12oz
including 3 Blues, Jim Milne, Alloa, 4 for 13lb 8oz including a Blue and 4lb 8oz Tiger
and Jim Donnelley, Milton of Campsie, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 3 Blues. Danny
Doherty, Denny, 3 Blues for 9lb 4oz, Peter Johnson, Glasgow, 3 Blues for 8lb 4oz,
Vic Henderson, Sauchie, 2 for 9lb 8oz including 6lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue, Nan
Morrison, Stirling, 2 Tigers for 7lb 4oz biggest 4lb 10oz and Brian Maskell, Oban, 2
Blues for 7lb. John Moyes, Grangemouth, 2 for 7lb including 3lb 12oz Brown and
Henry Fulton, Greenock 3lb 12oz Tiger.

6. WOODBURN FISHERY (Milton of Campsie) It was a good week with plenty of
fine quality fish coming off and included amongst the best bait catches was Greg
George from Balfron 2 who took 2 rainbows for 6lbs on a maggot, Steven Devennie,
Kirkintilloch 1 for 3lbs 8oz on a worm and J Taylor from Kirkintilloch took 1 for 3lbs
3oz on a worm. Walter Hill from Lanark caught 2 for 6lbs 2oz on a worm and J.
Kilday from Torrance used a maggot to catch one that tipped the scales at 2lbs 9oz.
On the fly fishing front Norman Shields from Cumbernauld had a nice fish of 3lbs
on a Yellow Nymph, John Shaw from Kilsyth took 3 for11lbs on a VGB and a Steely
Stone Nymph whilst Peter Tanner, Kirkintilloch, had 4 on catch and release –
estimated to weigh between 3lbs 8oz and 4lbs 8oz each on a Bobby Leech. Steven
Meechan from Kirkintilloch had 1 weighing 3lbs on an Ally McCoist and Frances
Robertson from Bonnybridge had a rainbow of 3lbs and a brown of 4lbs 8oz – both
fish were caught on a Green Fritz and safely returned.
