Trades house of Glasgow

Saturday the 7th of September saw the annual Trades house of Glasgow fishing competition held on the Lake of Menteith.
Weather wise it did not look to good for the day however as it turned out apart from one heavy burst in the early afternoon we missed most of the nasty stuff.
I was partnered up with a very nice fellow called Alec Graham of the Wrights, we have fished together a couple of times, it's a while since we last saw each other so I new we were in for a good time whether we caught fish or not. We decided to go to Malling shore and try out luck after a couple of drifts Alec caught his first fish on a booby, it wasn't long before I caught my first on a fly I had tied the night before, very satisfying. The rest of the morning was spent nattering and then before we new it it was lunch time at the rookery. The rest of the gang had a quiet morning with only a couple of fish caught so every thing to play for in the afternoon.
Alec and I headed out to Sam's point and it wasn't long before I had my second on a booby.  I began the day using an intermediate line then went to a midge tip, with which I caught my first two fish, I then decided to go with a fast sink tip and got my third on a Daddy long legs, Alec then got his second on a midge tip line and followed fairly quickly with his third after losing one near the cages, the rain came down heavy for a while and then brightened up. I decided to try a floating line and caught my heaviest fish of the day on a green hot head cormorant.
My total weight for the day was 13lb for which I received the Train trophy and the Beal trophy both of which I got last year, and I also won the Dallas trophy for the heaviest fish of the day at 4lb 60z, the last time this was won by a Skinner was in 1957, unfortunately from Team Skinners point of view we did not we the team prize as I was the only Skinner present, the team prize went to the Wrights with a total weight of 14lb 7 0z,  1lb 70z  more than my total weight !
A very welcome high tea dinner and prize giving was held at the Rob Roy motel, where we got a chance to catch up with every ones news.
Already looking forward to next year where I hope we can put a team together !
