Lake of Menteith fishing report
Tel: 01877 385664
Lake of Menteith 3rd September
Secchi
Disk Clarity 2.3m; 6ft Water temperature 15C
A windy few days has
resulted in most of the fishing being concentrated in the sheltered
yet productive Gateside Bay. Dries (daddies etc) or boobies (two or a
single boob plus cormorant) on sink tip to DI3 lines have been the
alternative.
In the second of the Club
Championship Semi-finals Change B were the top team (Jim Crawford,
Carl Nixon and Wullie Leach) with 33 fishwith. 2nd placed team were
Newtonmearns with 32 fish (John Buchanan, Kenny Hunter and Billy
Dewar – pictured left, apologies change B!). In third place were
Alba Orvis “B” with 30 trout. Top bag on the day was John
Buchanan (17 trout) who was in Gateside with a couple of boobies on a
DI3. The sixty anglers caught 416 trout of which 117 were weighed in
for 308lbs, giving an average weight of 2lbs 10oz and a total
estimated catch weight of 1095lbs. Full results at
Quite a few personal bests
this week. Keith Imisson (left) has been fishing the Lake since 1984
and had his two best trout in all these years on the one day last
week (7lb 13 and 6lb 13). The bigger troot took an orange shipman’s
buzzer in Gateside (he got the other one on a cats whisker booby and
intermediate line). Another long time regular Tom McBride (below) of
Good Companions AC, also managed a P.B. of 8lbs 12oz on a blue
cormorant – from the reeds in Gateside. As did Malcolm
Cardwell-Smith of Stirling Rotary with one of 5lbs 11oz.
Jean
Ferguson from Glasgow became the Ladies’s
National Champion and
is pictured here (on right) receiving the trophy from Bunty Webster.
The results were ;
1st
Jean Ferguson 7 fish for 16lbs 10 oz, 2nd
Jane Wright 7 fish for 15lbs 2oz and 3rd
Anne Boyce 6 fish for 13lbs 1oz
