The Sedge Muddler, Daddy Longlegs and Hoppers have been the ace flies whilst the best fishing areas have been the Dogleg, Dam Wall and the North Shore.

 2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing this week at Kingennie has been fairly tricky with water clarity on all ponds very good. The Boathouse anglers have been frustrated by fish following flies for the whole of a retrieve and then turning away at the last moment. Lures and intermediate lines have taken most of the fish but a few rods have had good returns with big dries like Foam Daddies. The biggest fish of the week was an 11lb 8oz rainbow taken by Mr Whiteford on a Black Buzzer and there was also a lovely brownie weighing 4lb 8oz taken by Mr Kydd on a small Black Woolly Bugger. The Burnside Pool has been the fishing the best of all the ponds with some really good bags of fish being taken. Most methods have been taking fish but small black lures have been the most successful. Mr Bairner had a great result on Saturday taking 4 fish for 9lb 2oz and returned a further 11. When the weather has settled there have been a lot of fish on the surface taking Daddies. The water level on the Bankside is still very low and not many rods have fished it but those that have fished it have taken fish on blobs or again daddy longlegs. Mr Cowan took 4 fish in just over an hour on Sunday morning. The water level on the Woodside is still very low but there have been lots of fish coming out. The top method is still Powerbait fished on a lead but there are more and more fish getting caught on the float. The biggest fish this week was an unexpected blue trout weighing 3lb 14oz taken on a worm.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a terrific week for big fishing coming off with Ewan Cant from Edinburgh using a CDC to take a great fish of 16lbs, Jack Fuller, Edinburgh, had one at 15lbs on a Yellow Dancer and George Darge, Edinburgh, took one at 14lbs on a Diawl Bach. Tom Russell jnr. From Edinburgh had one at 13lbs 6oz on an Olive Damsel, Tom Wright, Winchburgh, took a nice fish of 9lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach and Callum Bruce from Loanhead used a Bibio to net one at 9lbs 2oz.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water is still very clear which makes it exciting for the anglers as the can see the fish taking the fly. There is an abundance of fly life on the water so a variety of patterns from lures to dries are catching fish.

Those doing well last week included Jim Frew from Grangemouth with 3 for 10lbs 8oz – best 7lbs 4oz on a Damsel, Ian German, Falkirk, 3 for 12lbs 4oz – best 5lbs 8oz on the Diawl Bach, Jim Fyfe from Houston, Texas had 1 fish weighing 3lbs on a Black & Green Fritz and David Pitcaithly, Falkirk, took 3 for 12lbs on a Black Lure. S. Johnston from Abernethy had a brace weighing 8lbs 4oz on a Sedge, Bill Dawson,  Bannockburn, 3 for 10lbs on Nymphs, Jim Prentice, Tullibody, 4 for 13lbs on Dries and Jim Dow from Cowdenbeath took 3 fish weighing 10lbs on the Yellow Owl. Bob Sinclair from Cowdenbeath used a Silver Invicta to take 3 for 10lbs, Bob Ross, Kilsyth, 2 for 9lbs 8oz on a Black Nymph and Robert Chapman from Linlithgow caught 4 for 14lbs on Buzzers.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) There was some good days and some hard days for fishing this week, with the bright sun and wind on Saturday making conditions very hard.   Most fish were taking either in the top two feet of the water or else around four to six feet down. The boats still tend to be doing better although this is not always the case.   The small ponds continue to fish well and are proving popular on the breezier days when it is harder on Swanswater.  Small lures, nymphs and wets are all successful with the favourite patterns being Damsel, Diawl Bach, Hare’s Ear, Black Pennell, Buzzer, Sedge and Dancer.    On the small ponds, dry flies were taking occasional fish in the evenings with wets and nymphs also doing well.  The water temperature is now down to around 14oC and clarity on all three ponds is excellent. The Swanswater Cygnets had a boat outing on Swanswater on Sunday when the conditions were cool and breezy.   Conditions were hard and only three fish were landed, although the youngsters reported several offers and pulls.   The Club’s Honorary President, Paul Young, dropped in to see how the youngsters were doing and offer his encouragement.

Good bags this week included Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 7lb 4oz Rainbow, Frank Barr, Falkirk, in two trips in the boat, 9 for 25lb including 4 Blues plus 2 returned, Darren Hill, Cambus, 5 Blues for 13lb 12oz plus 2 returned, Graeme Arthur, Stirling, 5 for 13lb including a Blue plus 3 returned and Chris Donnelly, Lennoxtown, 3 for 9lb 12oz including a Blue. Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues, Callum McMillan, Stirling, 3 for 9lb including a Blue and 2 Tigers from the burn, Frank Turner, Alloa, 3 for 9lb, Jim Denny, Dunipace, 3 for 8lb 8oz from the Millpond, including a Blue and Ian Whitfield jnr. Denny, 2 for 6lb including a Blue

6. WOODBURN FISHERY (Milton of Campsie) The cooler weather has got the fish well on the move now and on the bait front William Wright from Kilsyth landed a brace for 5lbs 8oz on the worm, Gordon Hall from Bishopbriggs took 2 for 5lbs 4oz on maggot, Andy McMillian used worm to take a rainbow of 3lbs 8oz and Mr Carroll from Milton of Campsie took 4 for 12lbs on maggot. Stewart Chalmers from Kirkintilloch caught 3 for 9lbs and Ronnie Black, Glasgow, landed 3 rainbows for 9lbs 120z and a blue trout at 9lbs 7oz and a blue of 4lbs 2oz on worm.

The fly fishers did well including Mr Tanner from Kirkintilloch with 4 for 11lbs 2oz on Dancers, Mr Smith from Stepps had 2 rainbows weighing 6lbs 2oz on an Ally McCoist, Mr Thompson from Lennoxtown managed 3 for 10lbs 12oz on a Fritz with all fish being returned and T. Robertson from Lennoxtown used a Buzzer to take 3 fish for 10lbs 12oz. D. Fisher from Kilsyth had a nice rainbow weighing 4lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Gordon Hall from Springburn landed 2 rainbow at 4lbs 8oz and returned a fine brown trout that tipped the scales at 5lbs 2oz – both fish were taken on an Orange Fritz.
