ROAD CLOSURES: The road in Thornhill is scheduled to be closed 9th till 12 th July. Diversions is from Thornhill on kippen road via Arnprior. So quickest to approach from Callander on A84 or on A811 via Arnprior.
Clarity 3.3m 6ft Water temperature 18C
As our heat wave continues anglers are advised to take precautions against over exposure to the sun (hat, cream, glasses and plenty of water). The temperature of the Lake is set to soar and this will send the fish deeper so best places to try will be the Rookery, Malling Shore and Gateside. With a current water temp of 18 at 6ft the fish are not deep and today good sport has been had on floating line or sink tip on a variety of flies. With clear water the fish will also come up. However when water temperature climbs above 20 fish will avoid the top layers and anglers will have to go deeper to find the fish. Quite a few big fish in the catches in the last few days. Pin head fry in abundance.

In the second of the our two SANACC semi finals 26 anglers killed 77 fish for 192lbs and returned a further 184 giving an excellent catch average of 10 rainbows for 25lbs. Cut off weight was 26lbs. Top rod was Ken Oliver of Inverclyde FF was top rod with 17 trout for 35lb 7.8oz. Ken took his fish on boobies and diawl bachs fished on a midge tip line at The Plantation, Rookery and Shear Point. Sometimes we have to stock because the fishing is hard – other times we have to stock whether we want to or not for husbandry reasons. We may need the space in the fish pens or the flow rate into our growing ponds is insufficient for the fish number. This week the lake will receive another healthy stocking for the latter reason!
Heat 10 of the Scottish Club Championships saw 36 anglers competing. Conditions for evening were ideal and most anglers went looking for rising trout. Hot spots were Malling shore, Plantation, Gateside Bay, and Rookery down to Portend Bay. Later in the evening saw boats doing long drifts in open water at Arnmach point and from east side of Inchmahome to Sunken Island. 114 trout were caught with 53 being released for a total weight of 260 lbs. Top team on the night with 20 trout for 43lbs were Kelso A.A. 2nd place to A.B.C&D. with 17 trout for 37lb 10oz. 3rd place to Saturday A.C. also with 17 trout for 35lbs. These teams to semi final 30th August. Top basket fell to Saturday A.C. angler Steven Walder with a catch of 11 trout for 22lb 6oz. 2nd place to Mick Tait
Kelso A.A. with 9 tro ut for 19lb 9oz. 3rd place to Wullie Cowan ABC&D with 8 trout for 17lb 5oz. 4th place to Ronnie Glass Kelso A.A. with 7 trout for 15lb 2oz. 5th place to Gordon Walder Saturday A.C. with 6 trout for 12lb 10ozs. Heaviest fish on the night was a rainbow of 6lb 5oz caught by Kelso angler Mick Tait. Bottles of Speyburn Malt Whisky by Inverhouse were awarded to captain of winning team, captor of best basket and captor of heaviest trout. Top tactic by Steven Walder was a floating line with a fab on the point and crunchers further up – at the Malling Shore and across Gateside Bay. Scottish Club’s Heat Winners Kelso AC

landed 129 fish. Top rod was James Fairlie with 17, 2 nd George Whyte with 16 and
3 rd was Bill Ramage with 15. This week’s tackle voucher prize went to Andy Kemp in 5 th place
On the big fish front this 22lb pike was caught on the pike fly
David Walsh from Edinburgh but unfortunately failed to be resuscitated.
