The top taking flies and lures included the Bibio Hopper, Kate McLaren, CDC
Hoppers, Muddlers & Dabblers whilst the best fishing area was on the North Shore
from the start of the dog-leg to the dam wall.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The recent spell of excellent weather
has resulted in increased angler numbers at the Kingennie Resort. Fishing on
the Boathouse Pool has been somewhat moody but fish have been taken with
an average weight of 4lbs. Lures and buzzers have accounted for most catches.
Burnside Pool is now really beginning to show its true value with much more
regularity in the evening rises and numbers of fish being caught. Buzzers, dries
and lures have all had success. In latest heat of the Kingennie Bank Championship
Bruce Martin won with 14 fish (catch and release) on a Sparkly Damsel. Overall on
Saturday 62 fish were landed and the highlight of the week was Ian Barlow's superb
6lbs+ rainbow which fell for a Buzzer - the fish was released to grow even bigger.
The Bankside Pool is still showing plenty of surface activity but most fish have
proved to be elusive. However, on one session George Birse and young Robert
shared 13 fish taken on a Floating Fry pattern. There are large numbers of pin sized
fry in the pond and these will certainly attract the attention of the rainbows. Water
levels are somewhat low on the Woodside Pool but some excellent catches have
been recorded. Various colours of Powerbait were again by far the most successful
bait.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had the honour last week
of landing the biggest fish that tipped the scales at 15lbs 8oz and was included in
a C+R total of 4 fish all taken on a Damsel Nymph. Jim Leslie from Musselburgh

Johnstone with 2 for 13lbs 8oz – best 10lbs 8ozon a Black Rabbit and S Heriot from
Midlothian had 5 for 12lbs on a Hare’s Ear.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Last week saw some very mixed weather conditions but
on Sunday the temperature was the highest in years. Plenty of fish have been taken
as many being released every day on a wide variety of flies and lures that have been
working at various depths. Graham King from Almondbank had 3 fish for 10lbs on
an Invicta, Jim Kelly, Airdrie, 3 for 9lbs 12oz on a Bloodworm, Jimmy Young, Alloa,

8oz on a Black Lure. Ted De-Winter from the U.S.A. bagged 5 fish weighing 13lbs on
a Black & Green Fritz and Allan Mitchell from Stirling had 3 fish for 10lbs on an Ally
McCoist.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The warm bright sunshine at the weekend sent the fish
down a bit, although the breeze and occasional cloud cover made things easier on
Saturday than Sunday. The boats have been popular this week, with some boat
anglers doing well using lures fished deep. In general nymphs, buzzers and wet
flies were the favourites with best patterns being Diawl Bach, Cormorant, PTN, Kate
McLaren and Loch Ordy. Big dries were working in the evening especially on the
small ponds although the nearer the surface they are, the fussier the fish become.
There have been signs of tench feeding in Swanswater and 3 have been caught
recently, including one estimated to be around 3 or 4lb, which is a good indication
of the water quality. The new Catch and Release policy has been well received with
some anglers opting for sporting tickets. The special evening introductory offer £10
for catch and release from 7pm is still in place.
