Clarity 3.6m and 6ft Water temperature 13 C
Clarity remains very good and temperature has remained static at 13C thanks to some cold nights. The shallows
of the South East Basin remain the obvious hotspot with all bar one boat heading there on Saturday night. Big
buzzer hatches are still taking place (predominantly black and 10-12mm in length). Top catch method has been the
sink tip washing line (fab or booby on the point and buzzers below) or straight lining buzzers on a floater. Catches
mainly on the buzzers but dries and booby have also been effective.

Scottish Club Championships - Report by Kenny Miller.
Sat night in Heat 4 saw 15 teams in competition and 45
anglers caught 167 fish. 57 fish were weighed in for 149lbs
8oz, giving an average weight of 2lbs 10oz.  Around 9 p.m. I
saw the biggest rise of trout I have ever witnessed at Lake
of Menteith (and that is no mean achievement for the Lake
– ed). In a great competition, first place went to Cupar A.C.
with 30 trout for 63lb  5oz, 2nd place to Clan Chiefs with 25
trout for 53lb  4 oz  and 3rd place to Rowbank A.C. with 18
trout for 37lb  11 oz.  These clubs progress to the semi
final 23rd August. Top 5 rods going to the "Champion of
Champions"   were Sandy Robertson Jnr Cupar A.C. 16 trout
(pictured left, on left), 2nd Marcus Smith Clan Chiefs 14
trout, 3rd place Shane Kelly  Hawick A.C. 12 trout, 4th place
Eric Fox  Edinburgh Civil Service with 10 trout and 5
to Sandy Robertson Snr with 9 trout (pictured left, on right).
Heaviest fish on night was a rainbow of 5lb 12 oz caught by
Falkirk Municipal angler Rick Wilson.

this 7lb 4oz troot on Sunday but forgot the angler’s name. I
have watched this guy growing older over the years but
didn’t know either. Please identify yourself sir and collect 5
free flies by way of an apology.  Paul tells me there is a rare
nearly all black swan on the Lake – keep your eyes peeled
and camera handy.

Early Season Lake  Stats
During March and April, angler numbers were a little down on last
years number,  largely due to cancelled fishing as a
consequence of wind  or ice. Given the cold start to the season
numbers were  surprising high on some days!  The Mar/April
stats were 8.8 fish  caught for 20lbs 11oz and on comparing with
last year I was  surprised that last years data for the start of the
season showed an  average boat catch of 10.1 fish. On checking the
data I found a wee  mistake (sincere apologies) in the spread sheet
and last years catch  data for March/April was revised down to 7.7
fish per boat for  19lbs 3oz. Which mean that average catches for
this start to the  season has been the best ever (honestly)!
Although as pointed  out to me at a recent angling dinner, the fish are
smaller this year.  Aye by 2 ½ ounces – who needs scales, but
watch this space and  ol’ glittery shoulder is still under the pens - a 20
ponder waiting to  break somebody.

In the third night of the Boat League – sponsored by James Baynes fishing tackle Callander.  Last years Champion
James Fairlie was top rod with 15 fish. George Whyte was in second place with 14. James and George were in the
same boat over at the butts on midge tips using diawl bachs and cormorants. The 23 anglers caught 106 fish.
