Lake of Menteith 10th April
6ft Water Temperature 3.0C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 1.9.m.
The weather calmed down quite a lot today and there was even a hint of spring at lunch time and the fishers,
fish and fly life immediately responded. There were reports of massive buzzer hatches from Sam’s Point to
Lochend and the Butts - with a huge rise as the fish commenced feeding on the surface. Chris McAllister and Mike
Cordinar had a very good day on dries and others did well on buzzers. Great to see all those happy smiling faces at
the end of the day and no hypothermia. The Scottish Fire Service with 10 boats weighed in 33 fish for 83lbs (plus
some returned?). Milngavie Flydressers weighed in 41 fish for 106lbs for their 7 boats and returned 20. MacVean
and Macafferty (P.O.M./Hamilton) had 26 to the boat and weighed in 10 for 25lbs. Some photos from the last few
days. Top left Martin McLaughlin 5lbs 4oz on a hare’s ear, George Brown of Kilmarnock with a 6 pounder and
Gary Johnson of Townhill AC had a fine day on Sunday and netted this broonie on a size 12 red cheeked Cormie,
weighed in 5 and released a further 10-12. Sorry about lateness of report due to freezing computer problems – now
sorted.
