Lake of Menteith 15th October
6ft Water Temperature 8C, Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.0m .
2012 Champion of Champions
Ray Anderson of Glenrothes and Leslie AC - pictured left, picked
up the Champions Cup at the Lake last Friday with his 11 fsih for
24lbs 3.8oz. 2nd placed was Jim Hay of Dunfermline Artisans, also
with 11 fish, but a smaller weight of 23lbs 11.2oz. In third place
was Menteith Boat League champ James Fairlie with 9 for 19lbs
7.6oz. In fourth place, also with 11 fish and a weight of 18lbs
10.8oz was Peter auchterlonie of Crieff. Only the first two fished
were weighed and the released fish given an assumed 2lbs. An
underestimate at the moment as the fish are averaging 3lbs. In all
the 51 anglers caught 223 fish (rod average 4.4) with an average
weight of exactly 3lbs. Last year in the same comp – it was harder
and the rod average was 3.2.
Ray who also qualified to fish for Scotland this year, is a regular at
the Lake and was pulling a Cortland 7ft midge tip with 4 flies
consisting of blobs, boobie, diawls and a snatcher at Lochend. His
boat partner Ray Harrison netted 3 fish but Ray A thought that
Ray H was drawing them up for him!
Generous of you Ray! The Rays stuck to
the same drift all day. Second place Jim
Hay was in International Bay with an
Intermediate, two boobies and a cruncher.
Ian Earle from Bannockburn (right) caught
the final. Detailed results at
this nice looking trout during

Kenny Rodgers was out this week and is pictured left with his
first Menteith Trout. Kenny only took up fly fishing last year.
There are still around 900-1000 two to three pounders available
for stocking. They will go in this week and next. Maybe a few
more biggies but it is a difficult call to put them some in now or
grow them for next year!
Still 10-15 boats available for Kirk and School Day on the 4th
Nov.
Dries were working at the weekend after the comp when the
weather calmed down but intermediate lines seem to be the most
popular. Areas fishing are fairly diverse but include Lochend,
International Bay, Tod Hole, Sandy Bay. The fish are found
right from the reed margins to out in the open water.
Best Bag I heard of on Monday was Davie Paterson of
Stenhousemuir who had 7 fish and also returned “ a magnificent
looking 12 pounder”.
Liam Nugent from Glasgow
netted this 20lb plus pike on
trout gear (white cat) while
his boat partner who was
pike fly fishing failed to net
a fish (he did loose two).
It’s odds law!
Some great shots from
Colin Rioch below…..
Jim Twaddle of Cumbernauld and Jim Hay of
Dunfermline Artisans in a double hook up at
Lochend.
