The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 03 July 2011.
1. BUTTERSTONE (Dunkeld) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
2. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Ian Gibson & Party from Edinburgh kept 14 fish weighing
30lb 2oz, George Keith & Tom Langdon (Dunfermline) 8 fish for 21lb 4oz, Donald
Graham & Dick Locke (Kelty) 5 fish for 10lb 4oz, Jim Sheehan (Bridge of Allan) and
party 7 fish weighing 16lb and Kenny MacMillan (Perth) kept 3 fish weighing 8lb
8oz. Mark Sturrock & Ralph Rose (Cairneyhill) caught 8 fish weighing 20lb and Tom
Jardine from Madderty kept 3 fish weighing 8lb.
On the club front Perthshire F/C kept 3 fish weighing 5lb 2oz, Catch 22 A/C 7 fish
weighing 17lb 6oz, Grangemouth A/C 16 fish for 42lb 10oz, the Invicta Club kept 5
fish weighing 13lb 3oz and the Kingfisher 20 A/C had 26 fish weighing 66lb.
The best taking flies and lures included the CDC Hopper, Bibio, Kate McLaren and
the Red Wee Beastie whilst the best areas last week included the north shore from
the start of the dogleg to the dam wall but having said that most areas are worth a
cast.
3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing at Kingennie last week
was again been influenced by changes in the weather. However, some very good
returns have been witnessed with several large fish falling to small flies. There has
been a large range of diversity in the successful flies from very small Bloodworm
patterns to large Dog Nobblers.
On Woodside Pond the most successful methods have again been Powerbait &
maggots.
The best return from the Boathouse was by Mr Graham who had four fish totalling
26lbs 4oz with the best fish weighing in at 9lbs. Three were taken on a Yellow
Dancer and one fell to a very small dry. Floating Fry and the Yellow Dancer also took
fish.
During late afternoon and evening there have been large numbers of fish rising on
the Burnside. Mr Drummond took two for 3lbs and returned 15.
On the Bankside Mr Sawers had great success on Crunchers fished with a floating
line. He caught and released 12 fish including one tiger trout and one brownie. Mr
Wood and Mr West both released 15 fish. Mr Purvis had four fish for 7lbs 12oz and
Mr Wilson took four for 7lbs 8oz. Hoppers, Spiders and a Kate McLaren accounted
for most of the fish.
Fishing on the all method pond, Woodside was somewhat unpredictable although
some decent returns were made. Mr Armitage took four fish for 6lbs whilst Mr
Stewart had four for 5.50lbs
4. HOLL (near Kinross) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. MARKLE (East Lothian) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW
6. MORTON FISHERY (Livingston) This fishery is now open with 6 boats and bank
fishing available. More details on this exciting venue will be given in next week’s
edition. The manager is John MacKay and the telephone number is 07592 577652.
7. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been great just having some warmer weather
which makes everyone feel better and makes the fishing a pleasure which is what
we all want. The smaller flies are still working well with Sedge, Bloodworm. C.D.C's,
Black Beetles, Diawl Bach, Daddy and the Damsel all taking fish.
Included in the best catches last week was Marjory Anderson from Dunkeld
with 2 fish weighing 5lbs 4oz on a Daddy Longlegs, Nathan Bakker (12 years),
Sauchie,
2 for 6lbs on a White and Red Buzzer, John Hutchison, Alloa, 3 for 8lbs on dries
and Ron Thomson from
John Brindley (3 visits) from
Buzzers, P McNiven
Stuart Learmouth, Alloa, 2 for 4lbs 12oz on Bloodworm and
Denny, 4 for 9lbs 8oz on a Damsel. John Leckie & Bud from Alloa managed 3 for
9lbs on a Black Pennell and Martin Hudak, Alloa, 5 fish for 12lbs on Buzzers.
8. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) With the warmer weather the coarse
fishing is much better with some good fish being caught on Midton and the Snake.
On Saturday Barry Morgan had a personal best with a 16lbs 8oz mirror on Midton.
The Orchill Series was fished yesterday with 38 anglers taking part in perfect
conditions, hot and sunny with no wind. Davey McAuley was the winner with 52lbs
7oz, Mark Cook from Orchill Central was second with 50lbs 13oz, Bobby Marshall
Orchill Central came third with 36lbs 7oz and fourth place was taken by James
Woodrow from Magiscroft &OC with 36lbs. Also doing well in the competition was
Ian Whitson from Monklands with 32lbs 8oz, Paul Bryson, Lanark, 32lbs 3oz, Paul
Joyce, Orchill Central, 31lbs 1oz, Barry Morgan, Dunfermline, 29lbs 10oz and Drew
McLusky, Orchill Central, 27lbs 12oz.
9. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The arrival of some summer weather has increased the
water temperature and made the fish more active, although sometimes they have
2 fish 4lbs 8oz on a Soldier Palmer, Rosie Swain, Crieff,
Dalguise used Buzzers to bag 3 fish for 9lbs.
Liverpool caught 7 fish for 18lbs 8oz on CDCs and
Auchterarder, 3 for 8lbs 2oz on a Hare’s Ear,

been slightly fussy about what they are taking.
especially when there was a bit of a breeze on the water and the best results were
from fishing wet or dry flies with a fairly fast retrieve. In the early mornings the fish
have been on or near the surface but as the day goes on, especially on the bright,
hot days, they have been going deeper and ending up around four feet down.
Favourite patterns included lots of dry flies especially Sedges, Daddies, Hoppers,
CDCs, or, when the fish were just under the surface, traditional wets including Bibio,
Kate McLaren, Invicta, Butcher, and nymphs such as Diawl Bach and Hare’s Ear.
For most of the week, on Swanswater, the boats were doing better than the bank.
The small ponds were also fishing well and provided plenty of sport, both for those
taking fish and for anglers fishing catch and release.
There was some excellent fishing
Willie McAleese, Laurieston, had this week’s best bag and biggest fish with 4 for
19lb 10oz including 9lb 3oz Rainbow and 4lb 8oz Blue. Others doing well included
Alan Buchan, Stirling, 4 for 18lb including 8lb 3oz Rainbow, Keir Hardie, Stirling, 8lb
2oz Gold, Danny Doherty, Denny, 4 for 15lb 4oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow, Charlie
Rankin, Kirkintilloch, 2 for 7lb 8oz from the Millpond including 5lb 8oz Blue and Peter
Bryce, Alloa, 5 for 15lb 8oz including 2 Blues. Paul Christie, Alloa, 4 for 15lb 8oz
including 3 Blues, plus 12 C&R, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 11lb 12oz including 3
Browns, Marcus Tripney, Grangemouth, 4 for 12 David Wales, Edinburgh, 4 for 12lb
4oz including a Blue and John Kirkwood, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 8oz including a Blue.
Justin Pawlyk, Falkirk, 2 for 7lb 2oz including 4lb 10oz Blue and a Brown and Stuart
Nicolson, Clydebank, 2 Blues for 6lb.
