Lake of Menteith Fishing report
The Mayflies are hatching in significant numbers at the Lake.

Scottish Club Championships

In the 2nd Sat night heat of the Scottish Club Championships sponsored by Grouse whisky and the Angling Centre Stirling, 42 anglers landed 80 trout for 166lbs. Heat winners were Ayr Travellers (pictured right, photo Tom MacTaggart) with 5 fish who was fishing with orange blobs and orange cormorants on a midge tip or slow glass in the rookery and cages. Also qualifying for the Champion of Champions were George Gall, Stevie Walsh, J.Anderson junior and Willie Edmond. See www.sanacc.org.uk. for more details.
The Menteith and Angling Centre Boat League
The league kicked off on the night of Wed 11th and it proved a difficult night with the 17 anglers landing 20 fish for 44lbs. Top rod was Ian Stuart with 3 fish taken on dries in the Butts.

In the Disabled National on 15th May (all boats sponsored by the lake) the winner was Bill Barnes from Fife who had 12 fish – mainly on buzzers, in wavey conditions in International Bay. 2nd was Jim Crawford from Ayrshire with 7 fish and 3rd Ossie Smith with 5. Also qualifying for the team were; Willie Brash, George Bell. Tony Lithgow, Rab Chisolm, Dave Penny (reserve) and Tam Ward (reserve).
Club Results: Bothwell and Blantyre 8 boats 42 fish 87lbs plus 10 rtd, RAF North League 10 boats 47 trout 94lbs. Bridge of Alan 6 boats 27 fish for 58lbs, Leslie Llanilar 39 fish 84lbs and 9 rtd. Central Police 4 boats 21 fish for 44lbs plus 24 rtd.
MONTHLY STATS – record number caught and returned.
The mean 8 hr two man boat catch during late March and April 2011 was 7.4 fish for 14.1lbs. The mean weight of fish in Mar/April was 1lb 15oz. The number returned was 41.9%.
This catch figure represents the fishery record in terms of monthly numbers caught (April 2010’s average 8hr boat catch was reduced to 7.1 due to corrections). The number of fish returned in April also represents a new record with the previous record being last April at 34.2%.
ROAD CLOSURE WARNING: NEXT WEEK THE B8034 Arnprior to Port of Menteith is scheduled to be closed from 23rd to 27th May.
