5. ORCHILL LOCH TROUT FISHERY It has made such a big difference to the water having it deepened all round and last week when owner Elizabeth Jackson saw Harry Graham fishing at the road side she thought he has been converted away from his usual spot he has fished for years – it proved to be a wise move as he ended up with a great catch of 5 fish for 12lbs on Buzzers. Eleven year old Cameron Anderson from Muthill was delighted to catch his first fish on the fly on Saturday – a nice 2lb 8oz specimen than was taken on a Yellow Bug.

7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The conditions at Swanswater continue to be very good despite the breezy weather with occasional heavy showers which may have made casting a little difficult at times during the last week.  The water is at a good level with excellent clarity, and all three ponds are fishing very well.   For most of the week the fish in Swanswater were around two to three feet deep, while in the small ponds they were much nearer the surface.   The usual small lures and nymphs, including Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer and Cormorant were working on Swanswater, with wee wet and dry flies, such as Bibio, Pennell, Sedge, Spider and CDC, the favourites on the small ponds.

Our heat of the Scottish National Stillwater Competition was held on Saturday.   The format, all catch and release according to SANA rules, was something new for the fishery, but it was a very successful competition which was won by Alloa angler, Paul Christie, with David Laird, Bannockburn, runner-up.  The top seven anglers now go forward to the final in Aberdeenshire next month and the top seven from there will form the Scottish Bank Angling team to fish in the home international in Ireland later in the year. The Fishery is now open 8.00am to 9.30pm, seven days a week.

Robert White, Alloa, took this week’s biggest fish, an 8lb Rainbow.
