The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 08 May, 2011.

BUTTERSTONE (Dunkeld). The bright weather made everyone think the fishing would be hard but at the end of the week an astonishing 736 fish were caught with the best day seeing 19 boats landing 321 fish. The most popular flies are the Diawl Bach and Buzzers but some are doing extremely well using good old fashioned lures. The best drifts were the south shore from the top cove down to the west of the loch. The IBM Club visited last Saturday landing 123 fish for 14 anglers but the Rainbow Warriors AC did better by taking 157 fish for 13 anglers. Some big fish were landed including those from Mr Thompson at 7lb 14oz, Kevin Lynch - 6lb 6oz and Johnny Wright - 8lb 2oz.

2. FRANDY (Gleneagles) On the individual front Jim Sheehan, Peter Tong & Angus Inglis from Bridge of Allan kept 14 fish weighing 45lb 8oz and Alastair MacMillan (Comrie) kept 6 fish weighing 16lb 10oz and released a further 5.

The clubs were again out in force last week with the Pentland & Edinburgh Civil Service A/C keeping 48 fish weighing 142lb,  Phoenix A/C 17 for 47lb 2oz, Longannet A/C 9 fish weighing 18lb 2oz and Dunfermline Artisan A/C 40 fish for 129lb 8oz. The Bank of Scotland East A/C kept 33 fish weighing 92lb 8oz, Ferranti A/C 10 for 40lb 12oz, Newtyle & Meigle A/C 15 fish weighing 36lb 9oz, Clydesdale Bank A/C 20 for 70lb and the Edinburgh Medical A/C kept 3 fish weighing 10lb.

The favourite flies have been the Humungus, Yellow Dancer, Olive Hotty and various Cormorants and the best fishing area has been on the north shore from the Dow Burn to the Dam Wall.

 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was yet another week of great catches with Tommy Dickson from Dunbar taking 17 fish on C+R including the biggest of the week – a rainbow taken on a Hawthorn fly and it tipped the scales at 16lbs 8oz. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had one at 12lbs on a Black lure, Neil Carey, Edinburgh, one at 10lbs and Paul Rae from Hawick used various lures to take specimens of 10lbs 4oz and 10lbs 2oz. William Stewart from Edinburgh took 3 for 12lbs on a Black Fritz, Jack Stevenson, Ormiston, one at 9lbs on a Black Buzzer, Jim Skilling, Shotts had 17 on C+ and Brad Milne from Musselburgh had a 9lb rainbow on a Hawthorn fly. Paul Regan from Tranent had one at 10lbs on a Parachute Hopper and the Rainbow AC won the 6 man event at the weekend with a total catch of 17 fish for 60lbs 10oz including specimens of 9lbs 14oz and 9lbs 12oz.

5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) There has been a lot of activity on the top of the water with the warmer wind the last few days in between the showers. Featuring amongst those doing well was Eddie McKeown from Kirkintilloch with 3 fish weighing 12lbs – best 6lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Allan McKenzie, Killin, 5 for 12lbs 12oz on a Damsel, David Pitcaithly, Falkirk, 4 for 14lbs 4oz – best 6lbs 8oz on Buzzers, Allan Stirling, Auchterarder, 3 for 9lbs on Buzzers and Jim Coghlan, Auchterarder, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on a Black Fritz. Harry Isherwood from Cumbernauld used a Damsel to take 3 for 8lbs 8oz – best 3lbs, John Wright, Stirling, 5 for 12lbs on a Warrior, Boo Houghton, Stirling 5 for 12lbs on a Black & Green Fritz, Ian Bayne, Dunblane, 4 for 10lbs on a Whickham’s Fancy and Paul McKenzie, Almondbank, 5 for 13lbs on a lack & Green Fritz. John Gavin from Perth caught 4 fish for 10lbs 4oz on a Black & Green Fritz, Davie Horne, Stirling, 2 for 8lbs4oz – best 5lbs 2oz on an Orange Fritz, Graham Bakker, Alloa, 3 for 8lbs 4oz on a Damsel. William Docherty from Tillicoultry had 3 fish for 8lbs 4oz on an Orange Fritz and last but not least John Wallace from Tillicoultry took 3 fish for 8lbs on a Yellow Dancer.

6. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) Both the Midton and the Snake Lakes are fishing well with a wide variety of baits which can be bought on site. David Bell and his son 13 year old son Cameron were delighted to catch a good mix of fish weighing 122lbs between including loads of tench on pellet and maggot. 

He match on Sunday was won by James Woodrow with 60lbs, Allan Connelly                 was second with 51lbs, Colin Skeel was third placed with 39lbs 14oz and Brian Docherty fourth with 38lbs 8oz. C Postlewaite took fifth place with 37lbs 14oz and sixth place went to A Taylor who ha 32lbs 3oz.

7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Conditions are excellent at Swanswater at present with the rain having freshened things up.   The water is very clear and all three ponds are fishing well.   All week fish were seen moving and feeding on the surface of the small ponds although they were not so much in evidence on the top of the main pond.   On SwanswaterDiawl Bach and Hare’s Ear, were working well on Swanswater with wet and dry flies more successful on the Mill and Meadow Ponds.

The Swanswater Cygnets Junior Angling Club had a special guest on Sunday when they were visited by actor and television angling legend, Paul Young.   Paul spent the morning chatting to the youngsters and giving them advice on which flies and tactics to use on the Millpond.   He also took time to walk up to Swanswater and chat to some of the anglers there.

Paul Brown, Sauchie, took the biggest fish this week in his 2 for 11lb including 9lb 8oz Rainbow, Rory Ford, Stirling, 3 for 13lb including 8lb 8oz Rainbow, John Johnstone, Blackburn, 3 Blues for 13lb 2oz biggest one at 8lb 2oz, Brian Sharp, Stirling, 3 for 12lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and Jackson Ward, Stirling, 7lb Gold. Archie McClymont, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Gold and 2 Blues, Darren Hill, Alva, 5 for 15lb including 2 Blues, bigger one at 4lb 12oz, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 14lb 4oz including 2 Blues, David Laird, Bannockburn, 5 for 13lb including 2 Blues and Kimin Smith, Plean, in two visits, 9 for 24lb 4oz including 4lb Rainbow and 3 Blues. Willie Cairns, Dalry, 4 for 11lb 8oz including a Blue, Allan Hunter, Alva, 4 for 11lb including 2 Blues and 2lb 8oz Brown, Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, 3 for 10lb including 2 Blues and a Brown, Mark Canning, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 8oz including a Blue and John Murray, Alloa, 3 for 8lb 14oz including 2 Blues. William Williams, Alloa, 2 for 7lb 8oz from the Meadow Pond, Andrew Cook, Ayrshire, 2 for 7lb including a Blue and Jimmy Turnbull, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 8oz including 3lb 8oz Brown.
