Lake of Menteith Fishing Report
Lake of Menteith
Report 12th April 2011
Clarity 2m Water Temperature at 6ft 11.5C.Water temperature is on the rise again with an increase of 2.5C to 11.5C. Some calm and overcast weather has allowed some buzzer and nymph fishing. One boat had a good day yesterday (27 fish) using a small booby to suspend buzzers on a midge tip line. The calm weather meant it was easy to spot the fish and I noticed big rises in the middle (out from the road shore), around the islands and over the deeps at Gateside. Catching has been reported out from the road shore, Rookery, Malling and off Reedy Point. The ospreys were busy yesterday with the birds giving anglers some good close up displays of their fish catching skills.

CLUB CATCHES. Some recent club catches: Fire Service 13 boats 37 trout 70lbs, Bank of Scotland 6 boats 29 fish for 56lbs, Balbeggie ? Boats 35 trout 63lbs, Rainbow Warriors 6 boats 50 fish 116lbs plus 13 returned. IBM 9 boats 46 fish……CIBA 5 boats 32 fish 57lbs..
Left; Another photo from Colin Riach. Don’t know how he does it. This man has a fishing photo coffee table book – just waiting to come out.
Beware road closure at Thornhill and suggested diversions due to resurfacing (www.stirling.gov.uk/

Here’s one for your “strange things found in fish’s stomachs folder”. The 2lb blue was acting very lethargic in one of our ponds. I netted it out for investigation and was puzzled by an obvious bulge in stomach area. On opening it up the cause was apparent – a larch pine cone (6cm by 2cm). Poor thing. Guess it was a reflex action when it fell in the water and couldn’t be spat out.
