TO Email GroupIssued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 25 April 2011
The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 24 April, 2011.
BUTTERSTONE (Dunkeld). The fishing has been excellent over the past couple of weeks with 674 fish caught and 274 returned for week ending April 17th and for week to 24th April 712 were caught and a further 176 returned. Mr James Nairn had a successful day catching a brown trout weighing 14lb on a Black Cormorant with a blue rib body and this fine specimen won James a free day at the fishery. Last but not least Gordon Findley landed a 9lb 15oz winner using a black and green fritz. The best drifts are pike point round to the north shore and the south shore to the shallows middle ridge and from the south shore to the north shore. At the present time the Diawl Bach and Buzzers are the top taking fly patterns.
2. FRANDY (Gleneagles) All areas of the loch are now producing fish and the best taking flies and lures include the Olive Damsel, Humungus, Cormorant, Okey Dokey and various Dancers. On the individual front Mark Stewart & John Robertson from Tullibody kept 10 fish weighing 29lb 8oz, Dave Gonsales & Jim Watson (Auchtermuchty) 8 fish for 22lb 10oz, Andy McReary & Stuart Gordon (Dunfermline) 10 fish for 26lb 12oz and John & Craig Hamilton (Wishaw) kept 10 fish weighing 30lb. 4. MARKLE (East Lothian) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW
5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water has been fishing very well with a lot of the fish taking close into the bank and just under the surface. The brown trout have been rising freely, loads of little ones which is great to see that they have all survived the winter and the work being carried out. On the fly front Buzzers, Diawl Bach, various Fritz patterns and of course the good old reliable Damsel Nymph have all being working well.
John Wallace from Tillicoultry ha 3 fish for 7lbs 4ozon Buzzers, William Docherty, Tillicoultry, 3 for 6lbs 8oz on Buzzers, William McEwan, Sauchie, 3 for 6lbs 12oz on a Damsel and Jimmy Young, Alloa, 3 for 6lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer. John Beatson from Alloa took 3 for 6lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer, Robert Walker, Tillicoultry, 3 for 6lbs on an Orange Fritz, Brian Logan, Alloa, 3 for 7lbs 8oz on a Black & Green Fritz and Ken Clark, Lochgelly, 5 for 10lbs 8oz on a Black Fritz. 6. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) The Midton Lake has started to fish well now and the Snake Lake is also doing very well. Last Monday Jimmy Tripney from Perth had about 50lbs of mixed fish on Midton and beside him Joe Ogilvie from Dundee had about 70lbs of mostly tench with several weighing around the 6lb mark. William McNeil from Grangemouth also had around 50lbs of mixed fish on Midton, Frank Lurg from Dundee had 50lbs of mixed fish on the Snake on peg 50, Tony Rodgers from Dunfermline had 50lbs of carp and silvers on the Snake on pellet and corn and Tom Bates from Aberfoyle had 33lbs of carp on the Snake.
Sunday’s sweep on the Snake Lake was won by Colin Skeel with 48lbs 12oz, 2nd Neil Chapman with 45lbs, 3rd Brian Docherty Jnr with 41lbs 9oz and 4th Brian Docherty Snr with 39lbs 9 oz.
7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) When the wind moved round to the east midweek, there were fears that the fishing might go off a bit, but things remained good and all three ponds continued to fish really well. The fish continue to be well spread out with no particular hot spots, although at times the boats were doing exceedingly well – one angler even taking his bag of five from the boat in just one hour on Saturday afternoon! Most fish are being taken in the top four feet of water, although they occasionally go deeper in the bright sunshine. A variety of small lures, nymphs and wet flies are taking fish on the main water, with favourite patterns being Damsel, Dancer, Ace of Spades, Buzzer, Cormorant, PTN, Hare’s Ear, Pennell and Spider. On the small ponds many anglers are having success using dry flies.
Ronnie Codona, Glasgow, 3 for 13lb 8oz including 2 Blues bigger one at 7lb 12oz, Scott Fowler, Warrington, Cheshire, 4 for 15lb 6oz including 7lb 6oz Rainbow, Paddy Macrae, Dornie, 2 for 8lb including 5lb 10oz Gold and a Blue and George Gemmell, Falkirk, 2 for 9lb 8oz including 7lb Blue. Angus McDougall, Tullibody, 3 for 12lb including 6lb 5oz Rainbow, Peter Henderson, Cumbernauld, 4 for 11lb including 4lb Brown and 2 Blues, Gary Stewart, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 5lb Rainbow and a Blue, Alex Chatterton, Perth, 3 for 8lb 8oz including a Brown and Mark Mercer, Menstrie, 2 for 7lb 8oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow. Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 5 for 14lb including 2 Blues, John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 4 for 12lb including a Blue, Sandy Donald, Dunblane, 3 for 8lb 8oz including a Blue, Jim McGuire, Balloch, 3 Blues for 14lb, biggest one at 6lb, Martin Stewart, Glasgow, 2 for 6lb including a Blue and Les Cooper, Dunblane, 4 for 11lb 112oz including 2 Blues.
There are no club bookings for Saturday this week and only a small club (8 members) booked for Sunday.
8. LOCH VENACHAR (Trossachs) After a long drawn out pike spawning season (still ongoing) caused by unseasonably cold weather and water temperatures the catches are beginning to return to something resembling normality with progressively larger pike being landed in the past few weeks the best of which were a chunky 22lb 6oz from Alan Meechan, a 20lb 4oz from Ross Stevenson and a solid 20 pounder from Willie Salmond. Good trout catches are also being reported with the average weight being between 1 & 2lbs in healthy numbers with the best being a lovely 2lb fishing caught on a spinner by David Potter.
It was good to see Dave Lindsay and The Pike Fly Fishing Association (P.F.F.A) boys at Venachar and although fishing in difficult conditions they had a great day out. Check out the report of their trip at http://www.pffa.co.uk/ lochvenacharapril2011.htm and visit their website for more information on this innovative and exciting way of pike fishing. With the consistent warmer weather arriving and more activity expected from the fish especially at Little Drum Farm and the Road Shores. Some good results are shortly expected so remember to be there for the post-spawning feeding frenzies…it could be good!
9. HOLL (Glenrothes) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
