Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 28 March 2011

The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 27 March, 2011.

BUTTERSTONE (Dunkeld) It was a fantastic week at the fishery with a total of 1032 fish caught between 69 boats resulting in an average per boat of 15 fish – pretty impressive stuff! Young James Murnin had a tremendous brace with the biggest tipping the scales at 6lb 6oz followed by one at 5lb 9oz – both were caught on a Black & Green Fritz. Regulars Jack and Vic both tried to come out on top but Jack landed a 7lb 5oz fish leaving Vic trailing behind with a 7lb 1oz. Better luck next time Vic! Colin Adams used a White Booby to bag a cracker of 6lbs 2oz, the Vale Angling Club were pleased with their results managing 172 for 10 boats and Steve Goodlad proved that home-made lures are just as good with a satisfying 7lb 2oz fish. Gordon Miller using a blood worm near the shallows had a best of 7lb 2oz. Contrary to current rumours the management are not planning on banning anchors and remember any fish caught over 12lb wins you a free session of fishing.

2. FRANDY (Gleneagles) On the individual front Derek Purvis from Edinburgh kept 6 fish weighing 18lb 8oz and released a further 11, Boo Haughton & Tom McEwan (Stirling) 12 fish 31lb, William Wiseman (Dollar) 3 for 9lb, Colin Brown (Alloa) 5 fish weighing 13lb 8oz and Paul Shaw (Sauchie) 4 fish for 11lb 8oz. Peter Thom from Bannockburn caught 4 fish weighing 10lb, season ticket holder Andy Hunter (Alloa) caught and released 14, Michael Morton (Glenrothes) caught and released 5 and Hamish Fulton (Menstrie) 2 fish for 7lb and released 6. Ran McEwan (Stirling) kept 3 fish weighing 8lb 8oz and Norrie Baird (Stirling) 3 fish for 9lb 8oz.

ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) Allan Colon from Tranent had a fantastic day session catching 110lbs of mixed fish on the Snake all on pellet and this was an amazing catch for so early in the year and the weight was verified by several others so very well done Allan. The Midton Lake is slowly warming up and Mark Wilson from Crieff had had a personal best catching a 13lb mirror and a 6lb common carp.

The Sunday matches had a bit of a bad start with a touch of frost on the water first thing but when the sun came out it was a lovely day and plenty of fish were caught.

Orchill Central CAC had their first Summer League match and the winner was Brian Docherty with 36lbs 8oz, Jim Jones came second with 31lbs 9oz and Colin McKerrow was third with 27lbs 110z.

Edinburgh and Lothian Carp Association also had a good first day and their competition was won by Andy Roberts with a catch of 45lbs 8oz, Tony Hayler was second with 35lbs and third place went to Jimmy McAlinden with 27lbs 8oz.

7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The fish were well spread out round the ponds and taking in the top two feet of water for most of the week at Swanswater.   Towards the weekend the dam area became a bit of a hotspot particularly in the afternoons, but all areas were fishing well including the boats.    The small ponds were doing very well especially at the weekend with many anglers having a lot of sport on catch and release after bagging up on Swanswater, and the Cygnets club doing very well on Sunday morning.   The fish are active at the moment and taking a wide variety of flies fished with a fast jerky retrieve.   Favourite patterns included the usual lures, Damsel, Dancer, Viva, Cat’s Whisker, and nymphs such as Diawl Bach, Hare’s Ear, Buzzer and Bloodworm.   Small black flies, including spiders, were also working well on the small ponds

Alan Whitton, Stirling, took the biggest fish this week, a 7lb 4oz Blue, Allan Hunter, Alva, had an excellent day’s sport, taking 7 for 22lb 4oz including 2 Blues, bigger one at 7lb 3oz, David Stapleton, Dunfermline, 7lb 3oz Rainbow and Craig Ferrier, Helensburgh, 4 for 13lb 14oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow and a Blue.
