Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING
PRESS SERVICES
JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer
Issued
by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 04
November 2019. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 03 November
2019.
1.
FRANDY
(Gleneagles) THE FISHERY IS NOW
CLOSED FOR THE 2019 SEASON
2.
ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY
(Braco) It has been quiet week with the weather, Monday was
unbelievable with the rain and wind. Jim Linton morning had 8 fish
for 18lbs 8oz on Blobs, S Narbrough (Comrie) 2 fish or 5 lbs on a
Green Bodied Daddy, William Hume (Cambusbarron) 1 fish 5 lbs on a
Black Lure and Colin Dickson from Muckhart took 2 fish for 5lbs 8oz
on Black Buzzers. D Wilson from Dunfermline used Shipman’s to catch
3 for 11lbs 8oz, G McCulloch (Armadale) 2 fish for 6lbs on a Diawl
Bach and A Mitchell from Stirling had a brace for 7lbs on a Damsel.
Because
there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are
being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating
bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. The Eagle
Club from Tillicoultry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage
having the top bag with 3 fish for 12lbs - best fish 6lbs on a
Bloodworm.On Sunday, Alexander Buses had 21 fish for 53lbs 8oz -
heaviest basket S Bennie with 4 fish 12lbs - best 4lbs 12oz on a
Bright Green Buzzer, Ian Law (Paisley) 3 fish weighing 7bs 8oz on a
White Fritz and Alistair Sangster from Blackford used a Damsel to
take 2 for 5lbs.
Greg
Lockhart from Dunblane caught a couple for 5lbs 8oz on Buzzers, G
Frater (Stirling) 3 fish for 8lbs on the CDC and Damsel, Jim Linton
(Moodiesburn) 8 fish for 21lbs on Blobs
and
Hector Wilson from Bannockburn took 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on an Okey
Dokey.

FORBES OF
KINGENNIE
(Broughty Ferry) With
very changeable weather, this week it has been an unpredictable
outcome on the ponds. Water-levels are high but water clarity is
improving.
As
usual the Boathouse Pool has fished better when water conditions have
been clear, with buzzers, Diawl Bachs and Cormorants being the
preferred options. George Gall released 14 fish; Ian Barlow and Grant
Burnett returned 10 fish each; Ron Gray and Andy Cowan released 9
fish each and Andy Rutherford returned 7 fish in a short session.
The
Burnside Pool has been moody this week with numbers of fish showing
but not as predictable as usual in their feeding patterns. Phil Cody
released 9 fish taken on “washing line” tactics with two Buzzers
on the droppers and an Orange Fab on the point. Bill Ellis returned 7
fish in a short afternoon session; small lures were the preferred
option this time.
Plenty
of fish have been showing on the Bankside Pool but, like the Burnside
Pool, they have been hard to tempt. Steve Wisson took two fish for
7lbs 8oz, and released a further four. Dennis the Menace buzzers
seemed the best choice followed by Olive Buzzers.
On
the Woodside Pool (any legal method) David had six fish for a
combined weight of 13lbs; Mr. Andre had four fish for 10lbs and the
Somerville’s’ took four fish for 9lbs 8oz. As usual Powerbait
fished beneath a float was the preferred method.
This
past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a
change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they
have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and
cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds
have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been
essential for constant results.
The
Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with
lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions.
The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the
returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the
bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The
washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher
in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when
they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2
consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish
was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones
had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a
sugar cube shipman’s.
The
Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible
on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit
slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more
natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee
buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right
conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black
buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing
diawl bachs.
The
Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has
been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface
in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on
small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up
to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish
for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The
Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full
bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top
bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed
68 fish for weight of 115lb.

5.
SWANSWATER
(Stirling)
The week started relatively
mild with some very wet spells. The fish were mostly in the top 4
feet of the water for much of the week. On Friday and Saturday, they
started to go a bit deeper as overnight frost led to a drop in water
temperature down to 5oC. Water clarity continues to be very good
after the rain of the week before. During the first part of the week
the fish were to be found in the channel, roadside and bridge areas
and as the water cooled down the favourite spots were more towards
the dam and boat jetty. Plenty of Golds and Tigers are featuring in
the catch returns along with the usual top-quality Rainbows. Most
fish were taken on the usual popular lures with Humungus, Ally
McCoist, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer and Damsel all doing well. A few
nymphs and wets were also taking fish early in the week. The Fishery
is currently open 8.00am to 4.30pm every day.
