Issued
by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 14 October
2019. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 13 October 2019.

FRANDY
(Gleneagles) Due to the poor weather the individual numbers visiting
was on the low side last week but Bobby Paterson from Stirling caught

good number of angling clubs were out with the Phoenix A/C keeping 2fish weighing 4lb 8oz, Cowdenbeath A/C took 8 fish for 15lb 10oz and

All
areas fished well with the Hot Head Damsel being the top catching
pattern.

ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY
(Braco) William Docherty from Alloa

Because
there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are
being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating
bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. The Eagle
Club from Tillicoultry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage
having the top bag with 3 fish for 12lbs - best fish 6lbs on a

FORBES OF
KINGENNIE
(Broughty Ferry) Rain and high winds were fairly common last week but
there was still some excellent fishing to be had. On the Boathouse
Pool Buzzers,
Dries and small lures were the best options. Steve Martin fished the
“washing line” method with a Fab on the point and two Buzzers to
catch and release 9 fish and Klemsinsky took four fish for 9lbs 8oz.
On
Saturday the fishery was privileged to host North Field AC on the
Burnside Pool
with the outing producing 21 fish for 50lbs. Other anglers also did
well with Jock Leslie taking 19 fish on Dries - the best being a fine
rainbow estimated at 11lbs+. Bruce Thomson released 10 fish - best
estimated at 10lbs; Grant Burnett returned 7 fish - best 10lbs+ and
Terry Hogg also released 7 fish with the best being 8lbs 8oz. Dries,
Buzzers and Diawl Bachs were the better choices.
The
Bankside Pool
has plenty
of fish showing but with gin clear water they are somewhat
challenging to catch. Mike Galpin released 8, taken on Crunchers and
Buzzers, whilst Nick Soave took ((3 fish for a total of 12lbs 8oz.
On
Monday the Woodside
Pool (any
legal method) produced 10 fish for a combined weight of 23lbs. As
usual the most successful method was Powerbait fished fairly deep
beneath a float, although spinning is beginning to play a more
important role as fish begin to feed on fry at this time of year.
There are still at least two elusive double-figured fish in this
pool!
This
past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a
change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they
have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and
cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds
have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been
essential for constant results.
The
Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with
lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions.
The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the
returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the
bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The
washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher
in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when
they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2
consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish
was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones
had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a
sugar cube shipman’s.
The
Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible
on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit
slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more
natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee
buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right
conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black
buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing
diawl bachs.
The
Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has
been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface
in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on
small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up
to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish
for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The
Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full
bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top
bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed
68 fish for weight of 115lb.
4.
MARKLE
(East Lothian) Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 6 on a Bloodworm
including the ‘fish of the week’ at 8lbs, Duncan Storrer (Dunbar)
5 on c/r, Derek Powell (Haddington) 6 on a Grizzle Cat, Steven Harty
(Glasgow) 8 on lures and Paul Rae from Hawick had 4 on a Suspender
Minkie. Jamie McIntyre from Edinburgh kept 3 for 7lbs on an Ally, the
Fife Deaf AC took 8 for 30lbs on various lures, John Daly (Edinburgh)
had 4 on Bloodworm and A Scott from Edinburgh used Buzzers to take 6.
5.
SWANSWATER
(Stirling)
The main pond started the week
with coloured water after heavy overnight rain, but the small ponds
fished really well to make up for it. The water cleared quickly, and
the fishing improved again as the week went on. The end of the
Brown Trout season saw a cracking 6lb Brown taken and a few more
released. A couple of big Golds and a superb Tiger were landed this
week as the cooler conditions encouraged the bigger fish to become
more active. The fish were mostly in the top 3 feet, although the
occasional one was hooked deeper down, and well spread out round the
main pond, with the Far Bay being the favourite spot for Tigers.
The usual lures and nymphs were taking fish with Ally McCoist,
Dancer, Cut-throat Cat, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Montana and Buzzer being
the most successful. Power Bait or Maggots took most of the fish on
the bait pond. The Fishery is open every day from 8.00am to 6.00pm
Some
of the best bags this week included Stewart Nicholson, Knightswood, 5
for 18lb 12oz including 3 Golds, biggest one at 8lb 2oz, Danny
Doherty, Denny, 5 for 18lb including a Gold and 2 Tigers, bigger one
at 6lb 4oz, Ian Whitfield, Denny, 8lb Gold, Alan Armstrong, Dollar, 3
for 11lb including 6lb Brown, plus 4 C&R including 3 Tigers and
Kyle Crossan, Stirling, 3 for 8lb including a Tiger, plus 2 C&R
including a Brown. Charles Devine, Alloa, 3 for 8lb from the Meadow
Pond, including 2 Golds and a Blue, plus 2 C&R, Alan Prentice, 3
for 8lb including 2 Golds, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 3 for 7lb 12oz
including 2 Golds, plus 1 C&R, Ralph Anderson 3 for 7lb from the
Meadow Pond including 2 Golds, plus 3 C&R and Jimmy Higgins 2
Tigers for 5lb. Ian Sime caught and released 7and Frank Turner caught
and released 4, Robert Cochrane caught and released 4.
On
the bait pond, several anglers took a single fish but amongst those
taking a few more were Lee Hunt 2 for 4lb 12oz, Stephen More 3 Golds
for 7lb 12oz, Mark Ryan and Steven 3 for 7lb 8oz including 2 Golds
and Callum McKay 2 Golds for 4lb 4oz. Nathan Forrest 2 for 4lb 8oz
including a Gold, David Hennessy 3 for 6lb 4oz including 2 Golds and
