4. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Another monster brown trout was caught last week, this time topping the scales at 8lb 7oz. Along with this exceptional fish there have been a large number of other outstanding brown trout caught with a few being returned, and also reports of other big browns being lost. Some angler’s methods led to them only catching browns. Most of the week with the rising temperatures, the fish have been in the top 3 feet, often downwind right on the surface while feeding. The fish have been very active with chases and follows becoming common. A few fish were taken on dries, but more were taken on wets, fished just under the surface with a fairly fast retrieve. Lures and the occasional buzzer also had success. Many fish were still being taken and missed right in at the bank with stories of startled anglers seeing gaping mouths where their fly had just been.
