Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 15 February 2016. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 14 February 2016.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) The fishery closed for the 2015 season on Saturday 31st October and will re-open for the 2016 season (weather permitting) on Tuesday 1st March.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It’s been another chilly week here at Forbes of Kingennie, winter continues to drag on but there is hope as the days are really starting to lengthen and it won’t be long now until spring is here. Things  haven’t been affected with the ice really but there has been a small amount in a couple of corners but nothing to affect the fishing.
The Boathouse has been busy this week with people taking advantage of the clear water. A real mixture of flies has worked with the natural patterns definitely taking more fish. Mr Jones had a productive afternoon landing 13 fish on Black Diawl Bachs with his best fish around the 8lb mark. Mr Thompson returned 9 fish on a Cormorant with the biggest estimated at around 15lb. Mr Fleming had 4 fish for a weight of 18lb 8oz with biggest weighing 10lb 4oz caught on Blobs. The Burnside has seen the fish sitting much deeper this past week with the need for a sinking line being essential for consistent fish captures. The top fly by far has been a Yellow Dancer with a Cormorant on the dropper accounting for a lot of the fish. There have still been fish getting caught on naturals but fishing them effectively down deep is a lot harder. Mr Valentine had 8 fish up to 11lb on a mix of lures, Mr Roy had 10 fish on Black Cats, Mr Barlow had 7 up to 13lb on Black Buzzers and Hare’s ears whilst Mr Sherriff had 7 on a Yellow Dancer. The Woodside has been much busier and the fish have been spread out all over the pond compared to recent weeks. The float fished at about 5 feet has been the method with various baits doing well. Mr Mortimer had 2 for 3lb on Powerbait, Mr Barnes had 4 for 7lb on worms and Mr Mathews had 4 for 7lb on Powerbait.
Spaces are starting to fill up for the Scottish Stillwater team qualifier on march 27th but there is still room so if you are looking to fish it please call 01382 350777/350213 for more details.

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) There was a few lovely days last week along with a bit of snow which always makes the fish feed well.  Included in the best catches was Mark Steadman from Dundee with a brace weighing in at 11lbs 8oz with the best at 9lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Andy Airnes, Clackmannan, 2 for 7lbs 8oz – best 5lbs on an Ally, Bob Garvie, Lennoxtown, 3 for 10lbs 8oz on Black Lures and Dave Wilkie from Stirling caught 2 for 9lbs on an Ace of Spades. 5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) With aerators installed in all three ponds, Swanswater is open as normal despite some very cold nights.   In a complete change of weather, it was cold and bright most of the week which made a welcome change.   Saturday was the only really unpleasant day with sleet and snow showers blowing through for most of the day.   A cold breeze sprung up towards the end of the week and the fish moved from the channel and island area where they were early in the week back towards the dam and the boats also started doing well again.   Generally the fish are still around 2 to 4 feet down with some anglers catching on floating lines and wet flies.    Most fish were taken on intermediate lines and a variety of lures or nymphs.   Favourite patterns included Damsel, Dancer, Cormorant, Ally McCoist, Diawl Bach and Buzzer. The Fishery is now open 8.00am to 5.00pm every day.
