Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 04 February
2013.The following reports is for the week ending Sunday, 03 February 2103.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 01 2013
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) After recent snowmelt and heavy
rain the level of the ponds is now back to normal and water clarity has increased.
Powerbait fished on the bottom has again proved to be the top bait on the Woodside
Pond (any legal method) with Mr. Brown and his son having a combined catch of 8
rainbow trout weighing a total of 16lbs. The Bankside has probably been the most
consistent of the ponds with Nymphs and Orange Blobs taking the majority of the
fish. Brian Williamson had an excellent brownie of 5lbs on a Diawl Bach - the fish
was in superb condition and was returned to the water. A rainbow of 4lbs 4oz was
taken by 9 year old Logan Cumming on a Sparkly Damsel, which had been tied at
the Kingennie Fly Fishing Evening Class only a couple of days before. Fish in the
Burnside Pond seem to be reasonably well spread out with most being caught deep
down. Mr. West had 8 fish in two hours on a Black and Green Fritz. Water clarity is
excellent on the Boathouse with black and green lures taking the majority of the
fish. Mr. Robertson had two for 13lbs 8oz and then went on to the Burnside Pond
where he had a further 6 fish on the catch and release option. Mr. Smart caught and
returned a beautiful brown trout weighing 4lbs.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Due to the inclement weather the numbers of anglers
fishing last week was well down. Tommy Dickson from Dunbar had a great 13lb
rainbow on a Cormorant, Jackie Hay, Haddington, took one at 9lbs on a Cat’s
Whisker and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh used a Damsel Nymph to catch a lovely
5lb brown trout that was of course carefully released. The catch and release boys
had a good week and featuring amongst the best catches was George Swain from
Consett who had 10, Neil Keillor, Dunbar had 5 on a Clifton and John Thomson,
Longniddry, had 4 on the Yellow Dancer.
4. MORTON LOCH (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water is still fishing well with the varying weather
quite a bit – the top taking patterns have been just about any dark coloured lure
along with the Damsel, Yellow Dancer fished about the three foot mark.
Featuring amongst the top baskets was Gerry Kane from Cumbernauld with 2 fish
for 6lbs on Buzzers, Alec Marr, Falkirk, 2 for 7lbs on a Gold Head Olive, Paul Young,
U.S.A (2 visits) 4 fish weighing 11lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer and Jimmy Young,
Alloa, (2 visits) 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on a Black Fritz. Matt Kirk from Helensburgh took 3
fish for 7lbs on a Black Fritz, Harry Graham, Glenrothes, 4 for 10lbs on a Black Fritz,
Ron Lusher, Perth, 3 for 8lbs on a Damsel and Allan Stirling, Auchterarder, 3 for 8lbs
8oz on Buzzers. Harry Robertson from Perth caught a brace weighing 4lbs 8oz on a
Hot Head Damsel, Peter Paterson, Menstrie, 2 for 5lbs 4oz on a Hot Head Damsel
and William Smith from Menstrie had 2 fish for 4lbs 8oz on a Growler.
6. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Despite the sometimes very unpleasant weather
conditions this week, with cold winds combined with sleet and snow showers, the
water conditions have remained good with excellent clarity. Although the water is
fairly cold now, at 3 degrees centigrade, those braving the elements were generally
well rewarded for their efforts. The majority of fish were taken around 5 to 6 feet
deep, with most being caught on lures, such as Dancer, Cat, and Damsel. Some
fish were also taken on buzzers and small nymphs, with Diawl Bach being the
favourite. Tiger Trout are continuing to feature in the catch returns with a lot being
caught nearer to the water surface and closer to the banks.
Danny Doherty, Denny, 4 for 18lb 2oz including 8lb 4oz Rainbow and 4lb 12oz Tiger,
Ian Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 for 14lb, Laurence Maguire, Maddiston, 8 for 21lb 14oz
from Swanswater, plus returned 7 to the small ponds in 2 visits, Alan Armstrong,
Dollar, 4 for 13lb 8oz including a Gold and Stevie Griffin, Kilsyth, 4 for 12lb 8oz
including a Tiger. Derek Robertson, Bishopbriggs, 4 for 11lb 4oz including 2 Tigers,

4oz including a Tiger, Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 2
