Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 14 May 2012
The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 13 May, 2012.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Last week the best fishing area proved to be the north
shore from the Dow Burn to the dam wall and the best flies and lures included the
Yellow Dancer, Olive Hotty and various Cormorants. There were lots of clubs fishing
last week with the RAF Northern League catching 33 fish for 75lbs, Longannet A/
C kept 10 fish weighing 25lb 14oz – heaviest caught by Alan MacGregor a 4lb 11oz
rainbow, the Grizzle Cats had 45 fish for 106lb and released 8 and the Dunfermline
Artisan kept 19 fish weighing 49lb 15oz. District of Forth Valley AC had 14 fish for
27lb and the Clydesdale Bank A/C took 21 fish for 55lb 8oz with the heaviest being
caught by John Scott with a 6lb 12oz rainbow.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing was good last week at
Kingennie with the fish sitting a wee bit higher in the water. We are starting to move
more towards summer tactics with floating lines being used more and more. The
wind did hamper fishing slightly but when it did drop the fish were on the surface in
big numbers, almost any dry cast well would result in at least an offer.
The Boathouse Pool held a bit of colour at the start of the week and as a result best
approach was lures and intermediates, as the week went on the pond cleared and
fish could be targeted with stalking bugs.
The Bankside and Burnside fished fairly similar with Buzzers, Nymphs and Dries all
doing well. Mention must be given to Kyle McSherry who managed a beautiful brown
of 6lbs 8oz from Burnside. He had been using a lure with not a lot of success when
he switched to buzzers it wasn't long before he hooked the cracker so well done
again Kyle.
The Bait Pond has been fishing quite well to Mepps spinners (the smaller the better)
- anglers’ really need to scale tackle down at this time of year with smaller being
better than bigger and thinner diameter line is a must - no need for line with a
breaking strain of over 6lb
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a very quiet week due to the awful weather but
this didn’t stop Jackie Hay from Haddington braving the elements to take a 9lb
rainbow on a Dancer. John Butler from Pathead used a Black Lure to bag one at
8lbs, B McKenna took 3 for 10lbs on a Bloodworm and the Hoy and Hope AC from
Newbiggin on the Sea had a good outing taking 17 fish weighing 49lbs 9oz. George
Lees had 3 for 9lbs on Buzzers and George Liddle, Dunbar, caught 3 for 10lbs on a
Damsel.
4. MORTON LOCH (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The sand martins have been very busy showing that
there is a lot of life on top of the water.
On the nice sunny days dries have been
doing well along with a wide variety of coloured lures.
On Saturday the Live Line AC (Hydro Electric) had a good day taking 27 fish for
61lbs with the heaviest basket going to Alec Nelson with 4 fish for 10lbs 8oz plus
some more on catch and release.
Also doing well was Harry Graham from Glenrothes with 4 fish for 12lbs 8oz
on a Black Fritz, Cameron Aylth, Scone, 1 for 4lbs on a Black & Green Fritz,
Dean Caulder, Clackmannan, 3 for 8lbs on a Pink & Red and Connor Leyden,
Stirling, used a Cat and a Yellow Dancer to bag 3 fish for 10lbs. Steve Barnes from
Elgin caught 3 for 9lbs on a Green & Black Fritz, Thomas Lowe, Stirling, 2 for 5lbs
on a Pink Lure, Scot Crawford, Stirling, 2 for 6lbs on a Damsel and Jordan Crawford,
Stirling, 2 for 4lbs on a Black Lure. Kong from Crieff took a brace weighing 6lbs 8oz
on a Black & Green Fritz, Steve Irvine, Balloch, 4 for 9lbs on a PTN, Peter Paterson,
Menstrie, 2 for 6lbs on a Black Fritz and Hector Wilson from Bannockburn, had 3 for
8lbs on a Pink Fritz.
6. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK.
7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The weather was again the deciding factor this week at
Swanswater with the best fishing to be had on the days when the cold wind was less
strong.
