Lake of Menteith 17th April 2012
Water Temperature – 10C, Clarity (Secchi disc)2.5m.
It has been a varied week with frost, snow, Hail storms and a cold wind, despite that there have
been some sunny days on the Lake to bring the fish to the surface to grab the fly’s that are
hatching.
Areas that are holding fish include Lochend up to the pike buoys,
Hotel bay, Sam’s point into the rookery and sandy bay. Flies that
are doing well include Diawl bachs, blobs, Buzzers, Pheasant tail
nymphs, Cormorants, fabs, and booby’s, most anglers are using
slow sinking lines down to a Di3.
With the Menteith boat league sponsored by James Baynes
Fishing Tackle, only a few weeks away there are still places
available for this year, if you want to take part you can phone
Douglas on 07752128489 or email through the boat league page
on the website.
Mark Douglas from Stirling was taking some time
out from studying for his Highers with his
Granddad and caught a nice overwintered trout
weighing 6lb 11oz on a cormorant.
Other good catches include, Balbeggie (8 boats) 61
fish for 142lbs, Rainbow Warriors (5 boats) 47 fish
for 104 lbs plus 8 returned, Ewan Clark/Kenny

returned another 8, Lochinch a.c. caught 19 for
48¼lb and returned another 6, Mike Willis from

they would have caught more if they didn’t stop for lunch in the rookery (see picture below).
