Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 03 February 2020. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 02 February 2020.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) THE FISHERY IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE 2019 SEASON
2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) The water has been fishing well lately with the fish being caught at a depth of about 4-6 feet. Paul Hogarth from Grangemouth, on 2 visits, had 13 C&R on Walter’s Secret Weapon, Colin Clement (Tyndrum) 3 fish for 7lbs on a Hare’s Ear, Greg McLaren (Blairgowrie) 7 C&R on a Cat Bug, Allan Weir (Bannockburn) 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on an Orange Blob and a Pink Wotsit and Billy Weir from Bannockburn used an Egg to bag 3 fish for 8lbs 4oz – best 4lbs 8oz. Ivor Campbell from Aberfoyle had 2 fish for 6lbs 8oz on an Ally, Brian Clive (Forrestmill) 1 fish weighing 3lbs on an Ally, William Crawford (Fauldhouse) 2 fish for 4lbs on a Pink Apps and Andy Hunter from Alloa took 9 C&R on an Ally and Pink Apps.
Because there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. The Eagle Club from Tillicoultry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage having the top bag with 3 fish for 12lbs - best fish 6lbs on a Bloodworm. On Sunday, Alexander Buses had 21 fish for 53lbs 8oz - heaviest basket S Bennie with 4 fish 12lbs - best 4lbs 12oz on a Bright Green Buzzer, Ian Law (Paisley) 3 fish weighing 7bs 8oz on a White Fritz and Alistair Sangster from Blackford used a Damsel to take 2 for 5lbs.
Greg Lockhart from Dunblane caught a couple for 5lbs 8oz on Buzzers, G Frater (Stirling) 3 fish for 8lbs on the CDC and Damsel, Jim Linton (Moodiesburn) 8 fish for 21lbs on Blobs
and Hector Wilson from Bannockburn took 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on an Okey Dokey.
3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) As usual for this time of year the weather conditions have varied considerably. Water-levels and clarity are good at present.
Bob Anderson took pride of place on the Boathouse Pool releasing a magnificent brownie of 13lbs. A lot of fish were landed/returned but no-one really had particularly high numbers of fish. Mr. Pipe returned 8 fish and Mr. Barnett released 6 fish. Buzzers, Nymphs and Squirmies were the better options. George Gall enjoyed two excellent catch/release sessions this week, returning 14 fish and 10 fish respectively with the best rainbow estimated at 6lbs. Nymphs and a Squirmy fished beneath an indicator accounted for most of the fish. Jock Leslie, Ian Gordon and Mr. Morgan all released 13 fish each (lucky for some!). Ron Gray returned 10 fish and Bruce Thomson had 5 in a short session including a fine rainbow estimated at 10lbs.
Pete Atkin had a pleasant afternoon session on the Bankside Pool, releasing four fish with the best being a well-conditioned rainbow estimated at 8lbs+. The Green Apps was the best option, although several takes were had on a small Damsel pattern.
Powerbait fished deep beneath a float, or a Mepps spinner fished deep and slow have again been the best methods on the Woodside Pool (any legal method). Anton Merk landed three fish for a total of 7lbs 8oz and Mr. Low took two rainbows for a combined weight of 4lbs.
4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5.SWANSWATER(Stirling)
It was a cold, wet and, at times, windy week with snow on Tuesday and approximately 2 inches of rain on Wednesday afternoon overnight into Thursday! This coloured the ponds but with so much water flowing through, clarity was soon back to being very good. Water temperature dipped in the middle of the week from 6oC on Sunday to 3.5oC on Wednesday before rising again to 6.5oC by the weekend. Very few anglers were keen enough to brave the weather but some of those who did were well rewarded. Others found it a bit harder with the fish also hiding from the wretched conditions. Jim Spiers from Falkirk took 3 for 10lb 8oz including a lovely 4lb rainbow and Jimmy Higgins, Denny landed 2 for 7lb 8oz, plus 1 C&R. On the Meadow Pond Callum Clive, on his first visit to Swanswater, took 2 for 4lb 8oz. Ollie Larkin caught and released 3 and Ben Watson released a nice Tiger and a Rainbow.
On the bait pond David Hennessey had a 4lb Gold in his 3 for 9lb 12oz and James Muir also had a Gold in his 2 for 5lb 4oz. For the fly anglers Yellow Dancer, Damsel and Cormorant were the best patterns, while bait fishers were having success with worms, mouse tails and green power bait. The Fishery is now open 7 days a week from 8.00am to 5.00pm.
6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) NO REPORT THIS WEEK The catch results are obviously very weather dependent at the present time but overall some good baskets including big specimens are being reported with Black Rabbits and Blood Worms doing well especially down the east end of the Loch. The blues that were stocked last week are giving the anglers some real fun - this weeks stocking will be on Thursday.
James Black kept 1 for 3lbs 4oz and returned 1at10lbs, Kyle Loudon 3 c/r, Ken Davis 4 c/r, Mr Stevenson from Kirkintilloch 4 c/r, Jim Reilly (Glasgow0 3 for 10lb and 2c/r, Alan Steven (Glagow) 2 at 5lbs 8oz and Mr Campbell kept 6 for 17lbs on bait.
