The south shore has been the top fishing area and the top taking fly patterns have included the Black Nomad, Green Nomad, Tequila Sunrise Blob, Hot Head Damsel, Black Fab and the Coral Fab.

2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) The water has been fishing well with the depth still varying with the wind with a wide variety of flies doing the business even including Dries when it is calm. Hamish Carmichael from Alloa had a cracking brace for 10lbs 0 best 6lbs on a Viper Dancer, Jim Smith (Bannockburn) 4 fish for 12lbs 4oz on a Damsel, Colin Clement (Tyndrum) 4 fish weighing 15 lbs on a Bloodworm, Ian Sloan (Perth) 4 fish for 11lbs 4oz on a Hot Head Damsel and Jim Linton from Moodiesburn took 4 fish for 13lbs 8oz on a Wotsit. 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) As usual April has produced some very variable weather within the first week. Water clarity in the ponds has varied from gin clear in the Boathouse Pool to slightly discoloured through the rest of the system. Changing wind patterns have also had an influence with anything from a fairly mild SW breeze to a fairly steady and very cold easterly. Those anglers with the best results have responded to these conditions and generally tried several different pegs and/or pools. On the Boathouse Pool Ian Barlow returned 15 fish with the best fish a fine specimen estimated at 12lbs+.James Smith and M. Will enjoyed an excellent day’s sport, returning 15 fish and 12 fish respectively on a catch/release ticket. Best results were on fairly small flies (size 16 or 18) or Bloodworm patterns. A couple of fish were taken on dries which is always a positive sign. The Burnside Pool has generally responded better to Buzzers fished on a midge-tip line or to Squirmies/Apps fished beneath a “bung”. Gordon Dickson, Scott Watson, George Birse and Alan Thomson returned 8 fish each in relatively short fishing sessions. Frank Sherriff returned 15 fish on the Bankside Pool on dry flies despite a cold easterly breeze and Nick Soave took 6 fish for a combined weight of 13lbs. Dry flies and Black/Green Lures or Buzzers produced the best outcomes. On the Woodside Pool (any legal method) Powerbait fished fairly deep (1.5 to 2.5m) beneath a float has, as usual, been the method. On Tuesday five anglers landed 12 fish for a total of 22lbs 8oz.
This past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been essential for constant results.
The Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions. The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2 consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a sugar cube shipman’s.
The Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing diawl bachs.
The Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed 68 fish for weight of 115lb.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) A T Baxter from Edinburgh had 6 c/r non a Black & Green lure, Donald Hynd (Edinburgh) 10 c/r on lures, Jimmy Urwin (Tranent) 4 on an Orange Fritz, John Thomson (East Linton) had 2 for 7lbs on a Bloodworm and released 5 whilst Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh 7 on a Black Apps. David Bullen from Edinburgh had 11 c/r on Buzzers, Gary Winthrop (borders) 3 for 10lbs 2oz on a BF Damsel, Mike Blackwood (Borders) 6 on Buzzers, Kenny Morison (Edinburgh) 5 c/r on Buzzers, Keir Baikie (Ballancrieff) 4 c/r on Buzzers and John Daly from Edinburgh used lures to catch and release 6.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was a cool and mainly overcast week that ended with a miserable Easterly wind. The water temperature ended the week at 7oC and the clarity is still excellent despite some rain and sleet midweek. Early in the week the fish were to be found around the island and at the dam and were not too deep but as the week went on they went a bit deeper. The island continues to be a good area for catching with Browns to be found behind the island in the slightly shallower water. A large variety of lures took most of the fish this week with favourite patterns including Dancer, Ace of Spades, Humungus, Nomad, Ally McCoist and Cat’s Whisker. Diawl Bach, Hare’s Ear and Buzzer were also taking fish. Fishery opening hours are currently Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8.00am to 6.00pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8.00am to 8.00pm
This week’s catches included Alex Wilkie 5 for 17lb 8oz including 5lb Rainbow and 4lb 8oz Gold, plus 6 C&R, Andy Duffin, in three visits, 5 for 17lb 4oz including 4lb Rainbow and 2 Browns, plus 13 C&R, Danny Doherty 5 for 14lb, plus 1 C&R, Marius Botezatu 4 for 13lb, plus 8 C&R, Charles Findlater 3 for 9lb and Robert Smith 2 for 6lb 8oz, including a Gold. Blair Fergus 2 for 6lb, Alex Botezatu 2 for 5lb 4oz, plus 2 Browns C&R, Eric Mair 4lb 8oz Rainbow, George Dobbie 4lb Gold and Gareth Mair caught and released 5. Gary Dunsmore caught and released 4, Nick Wainwright caught and released 4, Dean Ritchie caught and released 4 and several other anglers caught between 1 and 3 fish and either kept or returned them.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Despite the very cold wind that persisted for most of the week the fish were still moving on the surface where they were taking dries mainly up at the east end of the loch and some excellent catches were recorded. Mr Caldwell from Stirling kept a 3lb 4oz rainbow and returned two doubles one at 12lbs and the other at 10lbs, John Shaw (Kilsyth) 4 c/r on Dries, Wullie McCallum (Cumbernauld) had 7c/r including two of 8lbs each, John Wilson (Kilsyth) 3 c/r and Jim O’Reilly from Glasgow took 2 for 4lb.Grant McCauley from Glasgow had the best catch of the week with over 20 fish on c/r - largest over 9lb on Dries, John Gilchrist (Stirling) 10 c/r largest 6lb on dries, Sonya Laiden (Stirling) 9 c/r on dries, Conner Laiden (Stirling) 8 c/r on dries, Hamish Aitken (Stirling) 7 c/r and Brown Mason took 3 for 11lbs on the Yellow Owl. Robert McIntyre from Kilsyth had 6 c/r, Alan Currie 3 for 7lb, Ian Crilley (Glasgow) 4 for 11lbs 2oz on the bait pond, Mr McGilvary (Bishopbriggs) had 3 for 12lbs on bait and Mr Tate and his son got 4 from bait pond for 12lb - largest 6lb.
