Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 18 December 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 17 December 2017.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles). NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2018

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The recent harsh weather resulted in large areas of the ponds being frozen over. Although the boat was used to break ice it was still difficult to maintain open water as overnight temperatures caused re-icing. Angler numbers were subsequently on the low side and returns, especially on the bitterly cold days, were also below average. However, Ian Barlow worked his magic on the Bankside releasing 15 trout taken mainly on buzzers. George Birse also did well returning 8 and Andy Cowan, fishing a short morning session, returned 5 on the Boathouse. On the Woodside Pool (any legal method) Mr. Wilkie took two rainbows for a total of four pounds.
The management at Forbes of Kingennie  take this opportunity to wish everyone an enjoyable Christmas and extend our best wishes for 2018 and thank you for your support throughout this year and look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Despite the extremely low overnight temperatures this week, the Fishery managed to keep some platforms clear of ice and offered the few brave souls who ventured out some excellent sport. Hopefully the temperatures are now set to rise by a few degrees and the remaining ice should be cleared with the help of the wind and, if necessary, the aerators. The fish were to be found at varying depths this week, although they were mostly quite deep down. Cat’s Whisker was the favourite fly with a good number of those caught taking this pattern. The Browns continue to enjoy the cold water and several were caught and released including 3 for David Lyon and Robert Wilson landed a lovely 5lb Rainbow midweek. The fishing on Sunday was very good with Ronnie Cooper, Stirling, releasing 11 and Scott Anderson, Kilsyth, releasing 8. First time visitor, Glen Grant, Grangemouth, caught and released 7 and his friend, Steven Fraser, Grangemouth, caught and released 6, both of them including a Brown. Several other anglers caught and released 2 or 3 fish and amongst those keeping fish, Robbie Leitch had 2 for 5lb 8oz including a Gold.
There are still a few places available for the Day after Boxing Day Competition on Wednesday 27th.   Please contact the Fishery to book your entry.   Gift vouchers for fishing and tuition are available and can be purchased over the phone. The Fishery is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and Swanswater is booked for the competition on 27th, although the two small ponds are open as normal that day.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
