The best flies last week included the Foam Backed Beetle, Sedge Muddler, Kate McLaren, Daddy Longlegs, Sedgehogs and the Bibio Hopper whilst all areas continue to fish well.

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water has been fishing well with small flies and lures on the surface or just under.  Gerry Kane from Cumbernauld had 3 for 11lbs on a CDC, J McMillan, Tillicoultry, 3 for 11lobs 8oz – best 4lbs on a Damsel, Ross Henderson, Dunblane, 2 for 7lbs on Buzzers, Ricky Lasley, Bonnybridge, 3 fish weighing 12lbs on Buzzers and Bill Dawson from Dollar took 3 fish for 10lbs on a Black & Green lure. 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Forbes of Kingennie has been fishing really well this past week with reasonably settled weather and not too warm temperatures, the fish have been very active and excellent returns have been had from all the ponds. The Boathouse, as well as the other ponds has cleared well in the past week and the water clarity is now very good with fish seen cruising around all over the pond. Tactics have varied on the pond from angler to angler but the normal methods of Dries, Buzzers and pulling lures have been producing most fish.  Mr Leslie had a good day on the dries landing 15 fish, Mr Wright and his son had 3 fish for 8lb and put back another 11, Mr Kirk put back 12 on Fabs and Buzzers with one around 9lb. Scottish youth team member Mr Gibson had 9 fish up to 10lb on Blobs and Nymphs. The Burnside is also very clear now with at least 4 feet of visibility. This has helped with the smaller flies taking a good number of fish. Dries have been the best method with the fish looking up most of the time. Mr Birse has had some really good days landing 20, 12 and 10 fish in consecutive trips fishing a small Black Beetle on the surface. Mr Anderson had 5 for 12lb on a Bibio and Mr Lawrence returned 13 on a mix of Dries and Nymphs with one around 11lb. The Bankside has seen the least pressure which is surprising as it has had the most fish on the surface and the water is gin clear.  Mr Sheppard had 12 on a mix of flies of the surface, Mr Jones had 8 on Buzzers and  Mr Walters had 8 on Damsels with one around 7lb. The Woodside has been fishing really well with lots of fish getting caught. The main method is still a bubble float with Powerbait but all the other usual baits are working as well as spinners. Mr Clark had the best fish of the week with a monster weighing 8lb 8oz on a piece of Powerbait.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) Joe Beattie from Edinburgh had 5 on a CDC, Davy Smith, Dunbar, 9 on a Hare’s Ear Shuttlecock, Paul Harvey, Whitecraigs, 4 on Dries, Lindsay Neary, Edinburgh, 4 on a Black & Green Rabbit and Jimmy Anderson from Musselburgh had 8 on Buzzers. John Daly from Edinburgh used a Black & Green Rabbit to catch and release 10, Bruce Hunter, Edinburgh, 11 on lures, James Fleming, Elphinstone, 9 on Buzzers and Davy Bullen from Edinburgh had 4 on a Beetle.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was ladies’ week at Swanswater this week, with the three biggest fish landed by two of our regular lady anglers.   Heather Johnstone had a great outing at the weekend landing a 9lb 4oz Rainbow followed a couple of casts later by one at 7lb.  On Friday, Nan Morrison landed a cracking 8lb 4oz Rainbow on a day when the fishing was not easy.   Throughout the week conditions varied and so did the fishing.   Fish were seen all week feeding and turning on the surface but they were sometimes a bit choosy as to what they were taking.    At the weekend a number of big fish were showing just off the island.   Despite all the surface activity one angler did well from the boat fishing a lure about 6 feet down.   There is a huge amount of small fly life going about at the moment so natural imitations are usually doing better than lures.   Favourite patterns included Diawl Bach, Damsel, Buzzer, Kate McLaren, Black Pennell, Black Spider, Yellow Owl and Klinkhammer.   Those fishing deeper had success with Ally McCoist and Pink Fritz.
Heather Johnstone, Neilston, 3 for 19lb 8oz including 9lb 4oz and 7lb Rainbows, Nan Morrison, Stirling, 8lb 4oz Rainbow, George Kochanek, Tullibody, 4 for 10lb including one from the Meadow Pond, Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 3 for 10lb including a Brown and Willie Torrance, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb 8oz.
