Fishing report by Jim Boyd


ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 03 July 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 02 July 2017.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles). Bob Dick & Jim Sherry from Kinross) kept 10 fish weighing 21lb 8oz and released a further 7, Brian Thorne, Glen Devon, 5 fish weighing 10lb 8oz and Tam Lansdown & George Keith from Dunfermline took 4 fish weighing 7lb 8oz and released a further 3.
On the angling club front Pen-Ex A/C kept 17 fish weighing 36lb 8oz, CIBA A/C 23 fish for 47lb 14oz, Western A/C 2 fish for 5lb and released 53, Townhill A/C kept 44 fish weighing 86lb and released a further 28 and Dunfermline Railway A/C took 27 fish for 54lb 1oz and released 28. Rainbow A/C caught 22 fish for 46lb and released 5 whilst St Boswells A.C kept 32 fish weighing 64lb and released a further 10.
The best flies last week included the Bibio Hopper, Daddy Longlegs, Sedgehogs, Kate McLaren, Sedge Muddlers and the Loch Ordie whilst all areas continue to fish well.

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) On Friday the Live Line AC had a great day catching 31 fish for 82lbs 12oz with Roy McLaren having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 13 lbs. On Tuesday it was great to see Bobby Wilson, 90 year plus, back fishing again after months in hospital and looking well - he caught 3 fish for 10lbs on an Ally. Eddie Jones from Kilmaurs had 2 for 10lbs – best 6lbs on a Yellow Nymph, Colin Clements, Tyndrum, 4 fish for 12lbs on a Black & Green lure, Graham Boot, Polmont, 2 fish for 7lbs on Dries and Craig Peattie from Glenrothes had a brace weighing 6lbs 8oz on Buzzers. Mike Lord from Murthly took 4 fish for 14lbs on Dries, Mike Noble, Blairingone, 2 for 5lbs on Dries and Jim Selfridge from Kirkcaldy caught 3 fish for 9lbs on a Montana.

3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) S Higgins from East Linton used a Buzzer to catch a specimen of 10lbs, Dave Smith, Dunbar, 7 on a Griffiths Gnat, Jimmy Anderson, Longniddry, 4 on an Apps Bloodworm and Mark Anderson from Musselburgh had 5 on a Zombie. Kenny Morrison from Edinburgh had 6 on Hoppers, Keir Baikie, Haddington, 4 on a Yellow Owl and Gordon Dagg from Pathead used a Shuttlecock to catch and release 5.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Despite the weather remaining unsettled and, at times, unseasonably cool, the fishing was good for most of the week, although the fish were switching on and off from time to time.   Anglers were reporting lots of pulls and nips, with quite a few fish lost due to gentle takes.   Various retrieves were working depending on conditions at the time.    The fish were mostly in the top 2 feet of the water and taking a wide variety of flies, with everything from dries to lures being successful.   The water remains very clear with visibility down to 1.8m.   Lots of Browns are being seen with those caught generally taking naturals.   Favourite patterns this week included Yellow Dancer, Damsel, Kate McLaren, Diawl Bach, Black Spider, Hopper, Black Pennell and White Moth.   Two cracking big Rainbows, one at 10lb 12oz and the other 8lb 4oz, were landed on Sunday on a Yellow Dancer and a Black Pennell.  
Les Cooper, Dunblane, 3 for 17lb including 10lb 12oz Rainbow, Alex Finlay, Shrewsbury, 2 for 11lb 8oz including 8lb 4oz Rainbow and a Brown, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 17lb 4oz, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 12lb 4oz and Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, in two visits, 4 for 12lb 12oz. George Dobbie, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 4oz including a Brown, Eddie McKillop, Glasgow, 3 for 8lb 12oz, Allan Whitton Stirling, 2 for 8lb 4oz, Nan Morrison, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 4oz and Henry Fulton, Greenock, 2 for 6lb. Michael Bolton, 2 for 6lb, Jim Craig, Balloch, 4lb Brown, Peter Haggarty  4lb Brown, Zach Neufeld caught and released 10 and Andrew Connelly caught and released 9. Jocky Weir caught and released 4 including one reported to be well into double figures.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Alan Baird from Kilsyth had 4 weighing 15lbs 6oz – best 8lbs, Gary Paton, Kilsyth, 3 rainbows and 1 blue for 8lbs 9oz, Peter Clark, Kilsyth 4 for 12lb, Jamie Wilson, Kilsyth 4 at 9lbs 4oz and Joe Whyte from Kirkintilloch caught 4 for 17lbs 2oz – heaviest 6lbs. Davie Smith from Glasgow 4 for 15lbs 9oz – best 5lbs, Matt Angus, Glasgow, 2 weighing 7lbs 8oz, Mr McCallum, Kilsyth 4 C/R,  Alan Smith, Cumbernauld, 22 C/R – Biggest 13lbs+ and Gary McNabb from Lennoxtown had 12 on C/R. Mr Dobbie from Glasgow 5 C/R, Steven Leyden 3 for 8lb and Mark Black from Cumbernauld took 7 on a C/R ticket.
