Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 20 March 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 19 March 2017.
1. FRANDY (Glendevon). Last week the top taking flies and lures included the Squiggly Bloodworm, Cut Throat Cat, Cats Whisker, Snake and the Hot Head Damsel whilst the best fishing area was on the south shore from Smithcleuch Burn to the dam wall.
Harry Carson & William Bryson from Kirkintilloch kept 10 fish weighing 21lb and released a further 4, Tom Chmielewski & Pawel Rowinski, Falkirk, shared 5 fish weighing 10lb, Jim Donnelly, Tullibody, kept 2 fish weighing 4lb 8oz and released a further 5 and Andy Hunter & David Hunter from Alloa caught and released 25. The Discovery A/C kept 31 fish weighing 66lb
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The weather has been very changeable over the past week and water clarity has likewise changed. High winds have made fishing very difficult on some days but some decent catches have still been recorded. On the Boathouse Pool most of the fish have been taken on Buzzers or small lures. Mr. Foster took three rainbows for 7lbs 4oz and returned six, all taken on small Cormorants and Mr. Monk and Mr. Connell both returned 12 each.
The Burnside Pool has witnessed some quality fish with a superb rainbow, estimated at 12lbs, caught and returned by Keith Kydd, being the outstanding fish. Bob Anderson also had a magnificent rainbow of 9lbs 12oz whilst the Church group returned fish estimated at 8lbs and 6lbs. Further good numbers on catch-and-release were taken by Ian Barlow and Bruce Thomson (9 each). With high winds being fairly constant the open nature of the Bankside has seen fewer anglers fish it than normal. Ed Valentine returned ten and Mr. Campbell took two for 4lbs 4oz on an Ace of Spades and a Yellow Dancer. On the any legal method pool, the Woodside, Powerbait and spinners have again produced the best results. Messrs. Taylor and Balfour took six rainbows for a total weight of 10lbs 8oz; Mr. Lafferty took six fish for 11lbs and Mr. Hamilton had four for 6lbs 8oz.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
4. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The brown trout season started in spectacular style with a monster at 8lb 2oz caught on the opening day. Some other fantastic Browns have also been caught with several being released. Once again Browns are not being caught by anglers fishing static, as they are looking to chase small lures and wets, some top of the water action has been enjoyed already, with Black Spider and Muddler working well. Last week was dominated by wind and some heavy rain resulting in coloured water for part of the week, this led to fish being harder to tempt, with lures, including dancers and cats, having most success. The fish were generally downwind, with many being caught close to the bank and dam wall. A few anglers reporting fish taking as flies were lifted out of the water. Later in the week the island was the place to be, with a lot of Browns being seen in that area. Most fish are feeding in the top 4 feet, while on the small ponds they are much shallower.
