4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Last week was changeable again with the fish just under the surface when there was no wind and the temperature was 12 degrees there were plenty of fish being caught but when the wind was up it made the fish go down a bit making it feel more like the time of year it is.
Geoff Thomson from Blackford had a lovely 9 lb Blue in his 3 fish taken on an Olive Fritz, Ivor Campbell, Aberfoyle, 3 for 12lbs 12oz on an Ally, Bill Dawson, Dollar, 3 for 11lbs on a Mini Cat, Gavin Wilson, Edinburgh, 3 for 8lbs on Buzzers and John Gilchrist from Stirling used a Fab to catch 3 for 8lbs. 5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The mild, settled weather over the last week led to some excellent fishing conditions. Water temperature is sitting at 6oC and water clarity is very good. The fish are active and are in the top 3 feet of the water with the Golds, in particular, being very visible as they follow flies. In general the fish were often to be found moving from the Channel in front of the Island to the Dam and back again, although the Far Bay was also fishing well. Small lures and nymphs were the most popular flies although fish are still being taken on wets and even the odd dry fly. Favourite patterns included Dancer, Humungus, Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Cormorant, Diawl Bach, Cruncher, Buzzer and Hopper. The Fishery will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reopening on 27th December when we are holding our annual Charity Competition in aid of Strathcarron Hospice on Swanswater. The small ponds will be open as usual that day.
