5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Bright sunshine, cool breezes, and cold nights meant that the fishing was a little harder this week at Swanswater although there was still a lot of excellent sport to be had.   The small ponds proved very popular particularly on the days when there was a cold north or east wind.On Swanswater the fish were generally at least 3 to 4 feet down and deeper at times;on the small ponds they were often to be seen moving on the surface. When the sun was at its brightest, any shady areas were doing well as the fish looked for some cover. The boats were also popular as the fish retreated to the deeper water in the middle of the pond. Most of the fish were taking the usual wide variety of lures and nymphs, but a few anglers successfully tried dries, particularly on the small ponds.Favourite patterns included Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Tadpole, Cormorant, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer, Stalking Bug and Sedge. The Fishery opening hours are 8.00am to 8.30pm every day.
