Fishing Report 07/07/15
Clarity 1.5m 6ft water temperature 16C
Cooler weather , wind and rain have totally dispersed any surface algae throughout the water column. Clarity is still on the low side at 1.5m. Best areas have been Gateside Bay, the Gap, Sandy Bay, Malling shore and Kates Brae.
In the Scottish National Angling Championship Semi-final 32 anglers caught 111 fish in very hot conditions. George whyte from Crieff was top bag and his successful tactic was fishing fabs on a midge tip line. More information at http://www.sanacc.org.uk/

Heat 10 of Scottish Club Championship too place on a lovely evening at Lake of Menteith. There was little wind and the 15 competing teams headed out to rising trout all over the Lake. At the evenings end, 134 trout had been caught with 64 being released, having a total weight of 295lb 2oz. Top club on the night was Caley Liners team of John Benson, John Simpson and Billy Muir who caught 20 trout for 42lb. 2nd place went to Select Fly Fishers team of Davy Wales,Alex Grant and Craig Hewitson with 13 trout for 28lb 5oz. 3rd place to Butcher Boy AC with 12 trout for 26lb 7oz. Heronry, Plantation and Arnmach Point were main fishing areas with plenty of rising feeding trout. Top 5 rods on the night going forward to Champion of Champions on Friday 9th October were :-
David Wales, Select FF with 9 trout for 19lb 5oz John Simpson, Caley Liners with 9 trout for 18lb 3oz John Benson, Caley Liners with 8 trout for 17lb 1oz, Jimmy McBride SPRA (East) with 6 trout for 14lb 2oz and Sandy McConnachie, Menteith Ospreys also with 6 trout for 13lb. Heaviest trout was a rainbow of 5lb 9.2 oz weighed in by Avonbank angler Jim Fairlie. Bottles of "Famous Angler" whisky courtesy of "Famous Grouse", were presented to captain of winning team, angler with top catch, and angler with heaviest trout.
The Boat League was won again by Brian MacKenzie.
