FRANDY (Gleneagles) Eric Fox & Jamie Piper from Edinburgh kept 12 fish weighing 28lb, Gordon Price & Keith Findell, Milngavie, 12 fish weighing 27lb 10oz and returned a further 10, Tom Melville & Jim Galloway, Blairgowrie, kept 12 fish weighing 29lb and returned 4 and Dave Gonsales & Jim Watson from Auchtermuchty kept 12 fish weighing 32lb – Dave had the heaviest fish of the day a 7lb 4oz Rainbow. Falkirk Municipal A/C took 18 fish weighing 33lb, Glasgow Academicals 6 fish weighing 9lb, Paisley Patterns A/C kept 22 fish weighing 51lb, Edinburgh Post Office A/C Had 2 fish weighing 5lb and released 17 and the KAHTS Whisker A/C kept 29 fish weighing 65lb.
The best flies have included the Black Hopper, Dawson’s Olive, Kate McLaren, Sedge Muddlers, Cormorants and the Sedgehog whilst all areas continue to fish well.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It’s been another week of unsettled wet and windy weather at times but very hot and humid as well, which has led some very favourable fishing conditions. For most of the fishing on all the ponds a floating line is all that is needed, there have been a lot of fish on the surface resulting in dry flies taking their fair share of fish this week. The Bankside has been reasonably busy this week with a couple of anglers doing really well having cracked the method. Depending on the day the method has changed from lures such as Blobs and Damsels when it’s been wet and dries and buzzers when it’s been settled. Mr Jones had a successfully day landing 18 fish on catch and release with most fish falling to small Shuttlecock Dries on a size 16, with his best around 5lbs. Mr Moneyman had 4 fish for 10lb and put back 11 on Dries and Buzzers with one returned at around 6lb. Mr Brown returned 12 on Blobs. Mr Watson returned 10 on Buzzers and a Fab. The Boathouse has stayed a bit coloured this week with a brown tinge but it has still produced a lot of fish. Again it seen to be either lures or dries that are doing the damage. Mr Thompson and Mr McCabe had another good day returning 15 between them on Orange Blobs. Mr Grey had 4 for 10lb 8oz on Orange lure and put back 6. Mr Walters had 2 for 5lb and put back 8 on Damsels, with one of the returned fish around 8 to 9lb. The Burnside has probably been the most consistent pond this week with more good returns. Dries have done well for those that have found the correct pattern as they have been fussy at times. All the big ones seem to be getting caught from the this pond this week with 4 big ones reported from Mr Costello one around 10lb on a Buzzer, Mr Watson one around 10 lb on a Fab, Mr Miller a blue at around 9lb on a Damsel and Mr Dickson one of around 11lb on a Skinny Buzzer. Mr Phillips had 11 on a catch and release ticket on an Orange Lure. Mr Birse had over 20 fish on Floating Fry in a few short visits. The Woodside has been really busy as usual with nearly everyone getting fish. The weed is starting to get up in the pond and the perch have been very active as well which has meant fishing worms is a little less productive for the trout so most have been using Powerbait on a float. Over the weekend there were 39 anglers land 115 fish for a total of 197lb.
IMPORTANT NOTE. As a result of how busy the Woodside is becoming and with the summer holidays approaching, the decision has been made to temporarily turn the Bankside pool into a bait fishing pond. This decision has not been taken lightly and is purely being done on a trial basis to give bait anglers the opportunity to fish for much larger fish and give them a little more space. There are going to be some very strict rules on the pond as it is still a fly fishing pond. The changes will come into place on the 4th of July. If anyone has any questions please feel free to call the shop for more information on 01382 350213 350777
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It turned out to be a very good week for the bigger fish with Tommy Dickson from Dunbar including one at 11lbs 8oz in his catch and release bag of 16 taken on a CDC Shuttlecock. Craig Gordon from Kirkcaldy had one at 9pbs on a CDC, J Harvey, Kirkcaldy, 1 at 8lbs 4oz on a Viva, John Franklin, Dunfermline, 1 at 8lbs 4oz and W Scott from Glasgow took one at 8lbs on a Bloodworm. Alex Rowley from Dalkeith used a Greenwell Spider to take 8, Alan Kennedy, Haddington, 6 on Buzzers, Mark Smith, Edinburgh, 7 on an Olive Buzzer and John Thomson from East Linton had 7 on Buzzers. G Pollock from Edinburgh had 5 on a Black & Green Rabbit and Lindsay Murie from Edinburgh had 5 on a Black & Silver Buzzer.
4. ORCHILL LOCH It has been another challenging week for the anglers with an abundance of natural feeding for the fish and very changeable weather. The fish are taking mainly under the surface to about 3 feet but are being fussy taking a wide variety of dries, wets and lures. The Perthshire AC on Tuesday had a good day taking 18 fish for 40 lbs with Bill Parnell having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 11lbs 12oz on a Yellow Dancer. On Saturday, the Falcon FFC had a frustrating morning taking 14 fish for 38lbs with Gregor Paterson winning with 2 fish for 6lbs on a Cat.

Peter Coelho, Paisley, 2 for 6lbs on Dries, Jack Gibb, Clackmannan, 2 for 8lbs on a HH Damsel, Peter Wright, Lincoln, used a Blue Mini Cat to bag 4 for 13lbs 4oz and Richard Jackson from Perth had 3 for 11lbs on Buzzers.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Fishing conditions were generally good this week, despite the continuing cool, dull weather, although the evenings were still pretty chilly.During the day a lot of fish were to be seen moving on the surface and most were in the top 2 feet of the water with anglers using wet flies and nymphs catching just under the surface. Those relying on buzzers or lures were having success a bit deeper down. Fish were also coming up to dry flies and although there were a lot of offers, many were just swirling and turning away.Favourite patterns included Damsel, Hare’s Ear, Muddler, Daddy, Kate McLaren, Sedge, Bibio, Yellow Owl, Montana, Cat’s Whisker and Buzzer. Swanswater was fishing well all round with the island, channel and far bay being hotspots at various times. Those fishing from boats were also doing well. Some superb fish - Rainbows, Blues and Tigers - in the 5lb to 8lb range figured in this week’s returns along with the usual top quality 2lb to 3lb fish.
Allan Laing, Carluke, 5 for 10lb 12oz including 7lb 8oz Blue, 5lb 8oz Tiger and a Brown, Jim Steele, Kilbirnie, 3 for 13lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow, Tam Baillie, Kincardine, 7lb 1oz Tiger, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 16lb 4oz including 7lb Rainbow and Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 17lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow. James Henderson, Whins of Milton, 5 for 16lb including 6lb Blue, Stephen Halcrow 4 for 12lb 12oz including 6lb Rainbow, Alan Kyle, Kilbirnie, 5 for 13lb and Brett Glencross, visiting from Australia, 5 for 12lb 8oz including 4lb Brown and a Tiger. Robert Park and Glasgow, 2 for 6lb 8oz including a Blue and a Tiger.
6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) On the fly loch the top taking flies last week included the Black Fritz, Goldie, Northern Fritz, Yellow Dancer and the CDC but in the evenings the Daddy Long Legs is doing especially well. On the bait only pond the floating maggot is doing the business.
Alex Reed had a brace for 6lbs 8oz – best 4lbs, Ian Anderson, Cumbernauld, 6 on C+R, Brian Eddie, Cowie, 4 for 16lbs and 12 year old B Houghton from Stirling had 4 for 16lbs. John Fowler from Stirling took a cracking blue trout of 5lbs 4oz, Rab Wright, Kippen, had a tremendous brace weighing 12lbs – biggest a 9lb blue, Alex Campbell, Cumbernauld, 2 for 4lbs 8oz and Mr Gahagen from Bishopbriggs had 1 weighing 2lbs 5oz.
