Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 18 May 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 17 May 2015.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Last week the Fritz Olive Damsel, Yellow or Coral Dancer, Red or Green Cormorants and the Bloodworm were all taking good baskets from all areas of the fishery. 2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It has been a fairly unsettled windy week at Kingennie and those that adapted to the sometimes strong winds were rewarded with some great fishing. All the ponds are producing with the water getting as clear as it has been in a couple of months, especially the Boathouse which is exceptionally clear. Even with that clarity there have been a lot of fish caught on lures with Damsels and Black and Green Lures doing well. The more consistent catches have been to Buzzers and Dries when the conditions have suited. Mr Wilson had 3 fish for 12lb including a 7lb 4oz rainbow as well as 12 returned on Black Buzzers. Fishing Inc. AC fished over the weekend with 6 rods landing 21 fish for 54lb 9oz as well as a few put back. The Burnside seems to have slowed down slightly but has still done big numbers of fish for those that cracked the method. Buzzers and Dries are defiantly the way to go at the moment, with a band of fish sitting in the top two feet of water and another group of fish sat much deeper at around 6/8 feet. Season ticket angler Ken Jones had a great 4 hours landing 22 fish on Black Buzzers and Mr Cowan had good evening on dries taking 14 fish in a couple of hours. The Bankside is holding a bit of colour but it’s not effected the fishing, at the start of the week Mr Robertson had an exceptional day returning 45 fish on Buzzers and Squirmies - the biggest was around 5lb, Mr Marshal had 11 on Cormorants and Fabs with the biggest around 8lb and Mr Dickson returned 16 on Dries and Nymphs with the best around the 10lb mark. The Woodside has been fantastic this week with nearly every angler catching their limit, again Powerbait or a worm under a float is the top method. The best fish this weekend was taken by Mr Holmes weighing 2lb 13oz on a worm. Over the weekend there was a total of 49 anglers landed 123 fish for a total of 195 lb.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian)There were some great catch and release catches last week, including some big specimens, with Chris Barrett from Musselburgh using a Hawthorn Fly to take 13, Tam Russell Snr, from Earlston had 11 on Buzzers and Tommy Dickson from Dunbar had 12 on Buzzers including 3 specimens in the 8lb class. 4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been another challenging week for the fishermen with the extremely varying weather for this time of year. The Goth FFC from Fallin had a good day catching 55 fish for 147 lbs with the Charity Pairs match with John Thomson and Robert McLean winning with 21lbs 12oz. Graham King from Almondbank had 3 fish for 12lbs 8oz – best 6lbs 4oz on a Kate McLaren, Dave Lawson, Methven, 3 for 12lbs – best 7lbs 4oz on a Damsel, Ian Millet, Tullibody, 3 for 9lbs on Nymphs and Alec Fitzsimmons from Fintry took a brace weighing 5lbs 8oz on a Tadpole. Ian Cartwright from Abernethy took 3 for 6lbs 12oz on a Hopper and a GH Daddy, Iain Wilkie, Auchterarder, 2 for 7lbs 8oz on a Cut Throat Cat, Iain Weir, Airdrie, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on a Black & Green Fritz and Ross Pirie from Perth used Dries to bag 2 for 7lbs. John McCulloch from Cumbernauld had 3 for 10lbs on Black Buzzers and William Stanfield, Bridge of Allan, 2 for 11lbs – best 6lbs on a Black Nymph.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Once again the weather was very mixed. Coloured water on Monday, due to heavy rain on Sunday night, meant the fish were hard to find. Tuesday proved the best fishing day of the week despite the strong wind. The remainder of the week the fish were mostly in the top two feet of water, going slightly deeper on Friday and Saturday, and then returning closer to the surface on Sunday. The most productive areas of Swanswater were in the channel, the far bay and behind the islands. All the varieties are figuring in the catch returns, with some fantastic Browns, Tigers and Blues around 6lb being caught. Best flies this week include Hare’s Ear, Diawl Bach, Snatcher, Cruncher, Kate McLaren, Black Pennell, Yellow Owl, Daddy, Buzzer, as well as the usual lures. The first hatches of Hawthorn flies have been seen although on a couple days they were blown of the water!!
