Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 12 January 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 11 January 2015.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL SPRING 2015
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The past week of very wintery weather has certainly put a few anglers off but those who have braved the wind have been having some great results. Sunday saw the Ferry Fly dressers fishing the Bankside pool with great success, 10 rods landed a total of 24 fish for 61lb with most fish falling to Damsels and Cats on intermediates. Season ticket angler Mr Sherriff fished Saturday and Sunday landing a total of 27 fish on Yellow Dancers with the largest estimated at around 10lb. The Boathouse is back to being very clear after the rain last week and fished really well over the weekend Mr Watson had 14 fish on a floating line and Squirmy Worms. Mr Dickson had 2 of the biggest fish this week in consecutive casts with one estimated at around 11lb and the next around 8lb both also taken on Squirmies. The Burnside has been the busiest pond this week and for good reason as it continues to produce a lot of fish if you get the method right. Mr Thompson had 12 fish on Yellow Dancers on an intermediate, Mr Simpson took 12 fish on mixture or the bung and lures but the best result of the week has to go to regular Mr Barlow where over the course of 2 days in 6 hours fishing landed 33 fish with the largest around 11lb most of his fish fell to Gold Head Hares Ears fished on a midge tip line fished very slowly. The Woodside has been quiet but every angler this week bar one has taken the limit - most of the fish seem to be sat around the inlet pipe taking most baits and methods. Mr Whyte had 4 fish for 6lb 11oz on spinners.
On Sunday the 8th of March Kingennie will be holding the second qualifier for the SANA Stillwater team who will travel to Ireland in October to represent Scotland at the international. There are still plenty spaces available so please call to book your space.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) There were a couple of double figure rainbows taken off last week with Jack Hay from Haddington taking the biggest at 10lbs 4oz non a Black & Green Fritz but Tom Russell Jnr, Earlston, was just behind with one at 10lbs included in a great C+R catch of 14 fish taken on Buzzers. Tom Russell Snr from Earlston used Buzzers to take 10, Stewart McGlashan, Edinburgh, 8 on Bloodworm, Eddie Peden 12 on Buzzers and G McLaren from Perth had3 on a Diawl Bach. Neil Keillor from Dunbar bagged 7 on lures and Lee Cartneil from Durham had 10 on an Apps Bloodworm.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was a week of winter weather with only a few anglers braving the hail, rain, wind and snow with a flicker of sun occasionally. The fish have been getting caught at varying depths with a wide variety of flies.
William Crone from Airdrie had 1 fish for 4lbs on a Blob, S. Cameron,Alexandria, 1 for 3lbs on a Damsel, Matt Ritchie, Perth, 2 for 9lbs 8oz on Buzzers, Ken Bell, Perth, 2 for 4lbs 4oz on a Gold and Pink Lure and H. Robertson from Perth took a brace weighing 4lbs 8oz on a Damsel. Alex Mazur from Dunfermline caught 2 for 7lbs 8oz on an Olive Damsel & Baby Doll, Hector Wilson, Bannockburn, 3 for 7lbs 8oz on a HH Damsel, Ronnie Stanovich, Glasgow, 2 for 5lbs on a Black Fritz and Steven Gilmour from Pitlochry caught 1 fish for 3lbs on a Dry Daddy. Allan Mitchell from Stirling took 3 fish weighing 7lbs on Dries and Joe Hunter, Tullibody, used a Cat to catch 2 for 5lbs.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was a very wet and blustery week at Swanswater with over 5 inches of rain and only a few anglers braving the conditions on certain days. Those who did come out were nearly all rewarded with fish and there were some excellent bags for those who persevered in rain, hail, sleet, snow and strong winds, plus a lot of fish caught and released by those electing not to take fish home. Although the water was coloured by the rain at times, there is such a volume of water flowing through the main pond that most of the dirt is flushed away very quickly. At the start of the week the fish were in the channel between the island and the roadside, but towards the weekend they were to be found in the more sheltered water of the far bay, mostly at a depth of between 2 and 4 feet. Damsel, Dancer, Buzzer, Bloodworm and Cat’s Whisker were the flies taking most fish this week.
James Riley, Fallin, 5 for 16lb 8oz, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 16lb including a Blue, John Glen, Kilsyth, 5 for 14lb 8oz including a Blue, John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 4 for 14lb 4oz including 2 Blues, P Dancer, in two visits, 4 for 11lb 4oz, including a Blue, Eddie McKillop Jnr, Glasgow, 3 for 11lb including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and a Green and Alan Armstrong, Dollar, 2 for 8lb 4oz including 5lb Blue. George Kochanek, Tullibody, 2 for 7lb 4oz, Angus Auchinachie, Falkirk, 2 for 6lb 12oz, Alec Knox, Glasgow, 2 for 5lb 12oz and C Dillon, Glasgow, 3lb 12oz Tiger.
