The top taking flies and lures included the Muddler, Kate McLaren, CDC Hoppers and the Teal Blue & Silver whilst all areas of the loch continue to fish well.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The summer heat is starting to show at Forbes of Kingennie; the water has really warmed up and resulting in a lot of insect activity but this has led to the fish being very choosey. When the fish have been “on” they have been very catchable on a number of methods but in the heat of the day when they are “off” it has been tricky. There has also been a very good run of big fish in the last few weeks and this weekend saw a double figure fish cone out of all three fly ponds. On the Boathouse there has been some blanket weed appear at the bottom end of the pond which hasn’t affected the fishing too much as most of the fish seem to round the island in the deeper water. Unusually the bung was one of the top methods with flies such as Black Buzzers, Okey Dokey and Eggs taking fish. As always, the usual lures have taken fish as well including one of the big ones at 11lb 4oz on a Hot Head Damsel taken by Mr Kirk. Mr Mills took 4 fish for 14lb and put 4 back on small Damsels. The Burnside has turned gin clear after a wee touch of algae in the last couple of weeks, apart from the evenings when there has been some good rises the fish have been sat very deep and most anglers have been using a DI3 or even a DI5 with Blobs and Boobies to get down really deep for them. There was an outing on Saturday that saw 12 anglers land 25 fish for 49lb with the largest being 10lb exactly taken on a Yellow Booby Blob. The Bankside has been fussy but get the right fly and the fishing has been very good young Robert showed how to do it yet again taking 12 fish on an orange Okey Dokey but Mr Barlow took the biggest fish of the week with a fish estimated at 12lb+ taken on a Green and Red Buzzer. Again the fish seem to be in the first bay up to the dam wall. There are some signs that the fry feeding is starting to take place after one of the best years we have ever seen for fry with fish visibly coming into the edge hitting big shoals of pin fry. If it keeps up like this there could be some great fishing continuing later into the year. The Woodside has been very busy as usual and there’s been lots of fish coming getting caught with most of them falling to Powerbait fished on the bottom with a running lead or fished deep on a float. There were a few bigger than average fish taken over the weekend with the best taken by Mr Stevens at 3lb 13oz on ledgered Powerbait. Mr Harkins and his son had 4 fish for 8lb on sweet corn.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a fairly quiet week due to the very hot, humid weather but despite this some decent bags were recorded. Tommy Dickson from Dunbar had 8 on a small black Floating Beetle, Rob Stewart, Edinburgh, 4 on Buzzers, Rab Barry, Edinburgh, 11 on a Yellow Dancer and T Hogg from Dalkeith took 3 on Buzzers. Shaun Mackie from Morpeth caught 4 on an Olive Lure and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh used Buzzers to take.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) There have been a lot of fish caught this week despite the hot weather and they are taking off the top or under the surface on small flies mainly fished slowly because of the warm water. On Tuesday the Perthshire Fishing Club had a rather wet morning and a lovely afternoon taking 23 fish for 53lbs 8oz. Dave Wilkie from Stirling had 4 fish for 17lbs 8oz – best 6lbs on a variety of lures, J Robertson, Perth, 4 for 12lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Callum McMillan, Stirling, 3 for 9lbs 8oz on a PTN, John Patrick, Kilsyth, 3 for 8lbs on a Diawl Bach and Robert Young from Kilsyth caught 3 fish weighing 9lbs on Green and Black Nymphs. Jim O'Neil from Stirling used small wet flies to bag a brace at 6lbs, Hector Wilson, Bannockburn, 3 for 9lbs on a Black Ant, Fay McLeod, Perth, 2 for 6lbs on a Hare's Lug, Robert Kettles, Perth, 2 for 6lbs on a Hare's Lug and Jim McNeish      Bishopton caught 4 fish for 10lbs 8oz on a CDC.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The beautiful summer weather made conditions a little difficult for fishing but very pleasant to be out and about in.   Although it was very warm and sunny for most of the week there was nearly always a light breeze to ripple the surface.   The fish were much deeper this week than they have been recently, mostly being taken 4 to 6 feet down, although on Saturday, when it was overcast and showery, they were in the top 18 inches of the pond for most of the day.   Dancer, Damsel, Buzzer, Diawl Bach, Kate McLaren, Daddy, Sedge and CDC were amongst the range of successful patterns.    Tigers and Browns continue to feature in the catch returns despite the warmer conditions with most of these still being taken around the mouth of the burn and in the bridge area.    Those anglers choosing to fish from boats did well this week when the fish were looking for deeper water.   The two small ponds continue to provide a lot of sport for anglers especially in the evenings when dry flies were working well.
Stephen Mason and son, Jordan, Cumbernauld, shared 5 for 17lb including 2 Browns, John Montague, Glasgow, 5 for 16lb 12oz, Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 5lb 12oz Tiger and a Blue, Kevin O’Brien, Falkirk, 5 for 14lb including a Tiger, Graeme Watt 5 for 11lb 4oz from the Millpond and Tom Pate, Alloa, 4 for 14lb including 2 Blues. Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 4 for 13lb 8oz including a Blue, Justin Brake, Edinburgh, 4 for 13lb 4oz including a Tiger, Frank Barr, Falkirk, in two visits, 8 for 26lb including 4lb 8oz Blue and a Tiger, plus 7 caught and released and Keith Kettles, Portobello, 4 for 11lb 4oz. Alec and Catherine Peachey shared 3 for 11lb 8oz including a Brown, Kenny Whitehead, Helensburgh, 3 for 10lb 4oz, Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 3 for 9lb including 2 Tigers, Danny Doherty, Denny, 3 Tigers for 7lb 12oz and John Dargie, Kirkmichael, 2 for 6lb 8oz. John Walker, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 8oz, George Taylor, Portobello, 2 for 6lb including a Brown, Angus Auchinachie, Falkirk, 2 Tigers for 6lb and Callum McMillan, Stirling, made two visits to the fishery landing 2 for 7lb 8oz the first time and 2 Browns for 5lb 4oz on his second visit.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) The top taking flies last week included the Damsel, Nymph, Buzzers, Yellow Dancer and the Ally McCoist. .Chris Winters from Larbert landed 3 for 8lbs 7oz and safely returned a 7lb brown trout that was the fish of the week. Also doing well was Mr Chung from Glasgow with a fish of 3lbs, Mr Wright, Kilsyth, 2 for 4lbs, Mr Burke, Denniston, 3 weighing 6lbs 2oz, Arthur Black, Falkirk, 4 for 9lbs 7oz and Stephen Meechan from Kirkintilloch had a brace weighing 4lbs B.
