Late fishing report

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Wednesday 13 March, 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 09 March 2014.

LATE REPORT

FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Spring has finally sprung by the feel of it up here at Forbes of Kingennie. In the last few days there has been a huge increase in the amount of plant growth and insect activity with some great buzzer hatches happening already. This has led to quite a lot of surface activity with the first multiple catches being recorded fishing dries.
The Boathouse is still very clear and has fished well to most methods but as usual lures have been the top tactic. Mr Macintyre took 4 fish for 17lb on a Black and Green Fritz and Mr Walker had 2 for 8lb 8oz fishing Copper Johns. The biggest fish of the week was taken by Mr Watson with a 5lb 14oz rainbow taken on a Damsel.
The Burnside has continued to dominate as the most consistent pond for a bit of action. Lures, mostly black, have been taking fish but Buzzers really are the way to go, size 10 and 12 black and Red Buzzers are the top pattern fished under the bung or just straight lining. There has been huge amount of fish caught and released so far this month, since the beginning of March there has been 213 fish released by 42 anglers and 52 fish killed for a weight of 93lb by 27 anglers.
The Bankside has seen the fish sat in 2 main areas, the first bay and the north bank sitting close to the margins around the reed beds and if you can get on them there has been some great sport to be had. Mr Anderson took 2 fish for 6lb 5oz and then went on to return another 14 fishing with a Damsel or a Yellow Dancer with a Dabbler on the dropper on a slow glass. Mr Watson had a productive session returning 9 fish in 3 hours fishing nymphs the best of these was a brownie estimated at around 4lbs
The Woodside is still doing a lot of fish to most methods but the fly has actually been the best. worms have been the best bait as long as you don’t fish too far out from the edge. Mr Smith had 4 for 8lb on the worm and Mr Jones took 4 fish for 7lb 4oz fishing a Black and Green Fritz under a bubble float.
