ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water has fished well all winter in the not so wild days but there has not been one whole day and night without rain at some time.    Yesterday for the 1st March it was beautiful but spoiled by rain again last night but hopefully it will dry up soon. The fish are still taking at varying depths with a wide variety of flies doing the business.
Sunday, hosted the first club of the season with First Bus from Bannockburn taking 31 fish with Willie Turner having the heaviest basket at 4 fish for 12lbs on a Bunny Leech. 6. SWANSWATER (Stirling) With over 30 inches of rain since the beginning of December, which is almost a year’s rainfall in 3 months, conditions over the winter have been very unpleasant and the water has been coloured on occasion although it usually clears very quickly.   Hopefully March will see the start of some better weather with sunshine on Saturday and today (Monday) already leading to some optimism that spring might be on its way.   The nine anglers who took part in the Troutmasters Fish-off on Saturday enjoyed the good conditions and the result was very close with Malcolm Miller beating Donald McMurchy by 1oz at the weigh-in.   The fish were generally a bit higher up in the water than they have been recently and were taking between 2 and 4 feet down.   The dam and the big tree were the favourite spots in the mornings with the island and far bay doing better later in the day.   Best patterns this week included Diawl Bach, Bloodworm, Cormorant, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer and Damsel.
John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 6lb 4oz Rainbow from the Millpond, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 5lb 6oz Blue, Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, 5 for 15lb 3oz including 4lb 4oz Blue, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 15lb 2oz including 3lb 14oz Blue and Roy Hatchard and grandson, Cameron Smith, shared 5 for 14lb 12oz. Barry Hamilton, Muirhead, 2 Blues for 7lb, bigger one at 4lb 12oz and Kevin Mathias, Bishopbriggs, 2 for 6lb 8oz.

7. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) last week saw lots of anglers out and about and on the fly front Alan Dean from Renfrew took an exceptional basket of 2 fish for 20lbs – comprising a rainbow of 6lbs and a brownie that tipped the scales at 14lbs.A brown Woolly Bugger did the damage and both fish were released. George Gooday had 1 at 6lbs, Alan Cuzen, Drumchapel, 5 for 10lbs, Mr McArthur, Glenboig, 4 for 21lbs and Mr Cadbury from Cumbernauld caught 5 for 16lbs. James Kilday from Kirkintilloch caught 3 for 6lbs 3oz, Alan Dean, Renfrew, 3 on C+R, Frazer Lawrie, Renfrew, 2 on C+R, Barry Dean, Renfrew, 2 C+R and Connor Black from Lennoxtown had 2 for 9lbs 2oz – best 5lbs 2oz. The top taking fly patterns were the Brown Woolly Bugger, Cats Whisker, Damsel, Buzzers and the Yellow Dancer.
The bait fishers also did well with Mr Currie from Glasgow taking 3 for 7lbs 8oz on a worm, Steven Whyte, Stirling, 3 @ 9lbs 4oz, John Murray, Stirling,  3 for 7lbs 8oz, Brian Hannah, Kilsyth, 2 for 5lbs and Danny from Kirkintilloch caught 3 for 8lbs 2oz, Alex O'Rourke and Alan Cuzen from Drumchapel shared 3 for 9lbs 2oz. Both worm and maggot did best last week with worm certainly taking the bulk of the catches.
Good progress is being made in constructing the two new bait ponds and work has now started in building the new club house. If the weather continues to improve then this will certainly speed things up.
