ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on.The following report is for
the week ending Sunday, 27th October 2013.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) FISHERY NOW CLOSED FOR THE 2013 SEASON

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Its been an exciting week at Forbes
of Kingennie with the reopening of the Bankside Pool on Saturday morning.
Several anglers were in first thing to take advantage of the fine weather and fresh
fish, although the fish were very well spread out and finding the right method took
a couple of hours. It soon became clear that small black lures fished on a slow
intermediate line was the best technique in the dirty water. However there were
fish caught on Cats Whiskers, Damsel nymph, Bloodworm and even a couple
were taken on Buzzers. The largest fish of the day was caught and returned by Mr
Dixon with a rainbow estimated at 4lbs 8oz, part of a 7 fish bag with most of them
falling to home made Humungous and Mr Birse landed 2 fish for 5lbs as well as
loosing a fish on a Damsel that he'd described as damsel "huge".The Boathouse
has been quiet this week with some anglers struggling in the dirty water but
Mr Storrier had a superb morning on Sunday landing 2 fish for 15lbs 5oz - the
largest a 10lb 13oz rainbow, both fish were taken on small Dial Bachs which
show you don't always need to fish big lures in cloudy water. The Burnside has
continued to fish well with the increased water level. The fish have been sat much
higher in the water than in previous weeks with a floating line being the preferred
option. Again most lures have taken fish with black being the predominant colour
of choice. However don't discard the natural approach Mr Sheriff took 5 fish
on Buzzers and 3 on dries in a morning session. The Woodside pool has been
fishing very well with lots of fish being caught most of which have fallen to power
bait fished under a float. On Sunday 28 anglers landed 46 fish for a total weight of
74lbs the largest a 3lbs 5oz blue trout taken by Mr Brown on a worm.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian). There were some excellent catches taken off last week
with Eric Livingston from Edinburgh taking 7 on catch and release using a Bibio
and Pink Buzzefs, Black Buzzer, Bibio and pink buzzers, as Scott, Edinburgh, 2

used a Buzzer to catch a nice rainbow that tipped the scales at 12lbs.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) We are right into autumn now with the rain and the
leaves a needles off the trees on the water and everywhere, but with it being mild
there is still a lot of fly life for the fish to feed on. The depth the fish have been
taking is varying with the wind and Black and Green and Black Fritzes have been
doing well along with Jock Esplin's Ally McCoist. The water is also coloured for
the fist time for months. On Sunday the Falcon FFC had a good day taking 52 fish
for 134lbs 8oz with Gregor Paterson winning the morning competition with 4 fish

fish for 14lbs on an Ally McCoist

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling). The fishing at Swanswater continues to improve with
good conditions most days this week, apart from Tuesday when the exceptionally
heavy rain overnight led to very high and coloured water. Fortunately the
level dropped quickly and for the rest of the week, despite rain and wind, the
water was clear. The fish were generally around 2 to 4 feet down, with a few
showing regularly on the surface of Swanswater. However, one of the youngest
members of the Cygnets Club was fishing a Daddy on the Millpond on Sunday
and getting a lot of follows. Other successful patterns this week included a
selection of nymphs including Diawl Bach, Damsel, and Hare’s Ear, with Buzzers,
Bloodworm and the usual small lures also doing well. Now that the clocks have
changed the Fishery will be open every day from 8am to 5pm.Willie Martin,
